That's still enough to account for the album being finished in 2017 and released in 2019.

It's actually perfect, the flow of the gnarly guitar solos into the softer synth beats, the songs themselves which are excellent, it works beautifully.

Right on. I read it as "That(alone) is a couple years work."

Where did I say I want it to be 75 minutes?
And if it's all the same quality as what's there, why not 75 minutes?
If it were, would that be "part of the album" as well?
    Sheesh.

You didn't, but in a previous post you said it seemed a bit short. All I was trying to say was that, for me, it's a perfect album length and that it's better than 75 minutes because most artists can't come up with enough material to justify that length.

Came in the mail today from Amazon... apparently the version they are selling is a CD-R and not a pressed silver CD. Not happy about this, it's going right back to them.

Mine is a standard silver cd, definitely not a CD-R.

Did you get it through Amazon?

Mine even had the awkward barcode they put on their made on demand CDs on the disc face and booklet back.

Was it fulfilled by Amazon? Because the majority of stuff on Amazon is actually from third-party vendors.

Got it direct from Amazon, barcode in the usual place on the back of the tray card, nothing on disc face.
Maybe you got a boot? Did you order from one of the third party sellers?

Pre-ordered directly from Amazon, no third party.

That's strange. Definitely send it back.

Already have it packed back up and and ready to go to UPS. Looking at their site now, they are sold out of non-third party version now. However mine was a pre-order from months ago. Was shocked such a high profile release was shipped out as a CD-R.

    How’s the vinyl on this?

Gave this a first and second listen in the car today (perfect driving music!). Awesome record and a very enjoyable evolution of his music. The first time through, it was “spot the influence”:which was fun, but second time through the sheer attitude and energy of the songwriting comes through. And I appreciate it’s no longer than it needs to be. 41 minutes of near perfection. I can’t thinks of a single non-compilation album over 50 minutes long that doesn’t drag.

This feels like a good, Warner Bros.-era ZZ Top album. It may not be on par with his previous two, but I dig it.

I have the red/black swirl vinyl, and it's a good pressing, though a bit noisy here and there, but since the music is mostly loud/distorted, that's not really an issue. The dynamics are a bit crushed (for vinyl), but that may just be inherent to the source.

It sounds fine. It certainly wouldn't be the album I put on to show off my system.

I think @slop101 put it pretty well.

EDIT: Mine is just the plain black vinyl I picked up at Barnes & Noble.

Does it come with a digital download card?

  20. I’m a CD guy but this is one definite advantage of the vinyl revival for me.The last 30 years have seen way too many albums bloated with 30 minutes of filler to get up to capacity CD length. That being said 3 of my favourite albums of this year-Patty Griffin,Glen Hansard and The National-are all about an hour in length.

Black vinyl from Amazon, no download code. Always a bummer to me, just seems like a money grab.

I am going to have to spend some more time with this one to see if I can appreciate it more. There are only a few out there that produced a country sound I liked and Sturgill was one of them for me so I'm caught off guard a little bit by this.

I gotta admit, I felt exactly the same. I've given it some time though and it is a cool record. Don't give up yet. It may grow on ya.

My copy is the red/black swirl. And there's little to no surface noise. It's not an audiophile recording, but it sounds pretty good on vinyl. A friend streamed it for us the other evening, I like the sound of the vinyl mastering better. No download card, which is disappointing. I usually burn the download to a CD for the car.
