I've been hoping something like this would emerge. I know part of the So Many Roads box set addressed some of these songs, but I always thought it should be done as a standalone release.

Whatever they do with this release it is a major mistake not to end the disc with the 7/9/95 "So Many Roads" from Soldier Field. Not the greatest performance, but it can't be beat for pure emotional impact. Might as Well just get the So Many Roads box and listen to disc 5.

They could also compile an interesting CD of Brent's songs that weren't recorded.

I was at the shows of "Liberty," "Corrina," "Samba In The Rain," "So Many Roads," and "Easy Answers."
10/14/94 is a great choice for "Corrina" provided they leave the entire outro jam on it (which they probably won't).

  14. How far along was the recording project for each of the studio tracks? I'm just curious how difficult it would be for the surviving members along with some help to complete it.

"Maybe You Know How I Feel" should just be the entire 4/21/86 Brent meltdown.

Agree. Lazy River Road, Days Between, and So Many Roads are the only keepers IMHO. Though Days Between is pretty turgid.

Yeah. This will be a much better listen, I can already tell. No standalone meandering jam tracks, songs properly separated, and all from real shows instead of rehearsals.

Honestly, I would've been fine with them comping different takes from different dates to make a "best possible" version of every song for this one specific release, given how uneven the Dead were during these years, but I'll take what I can get here.

I'm really glad they're using a different version, since that one has a) already been released and b) isn't very good. I don't think this is really for 'emotional impact,' just a gathering place for these songs in presumably the best versions they can find.
