I thought "Red State" was the best thing he'd ever done and wish he was more interested in making more similar, modern movies. "Clerks" just seems old-fashioned to me.

IIRC, at the time Smith said in interviews that the only reason he was doing 'Clerks II' was to help Jason Mewes [aka Jay] kick his drug habit. That rationale didn't make sense to me then or now.

Not a fan of either of the 'Clerks' films - or of Smith generally for that matter. So, I couldn't care less whether he does III or not. If he can get someone to invest the money - why not? I believe the Jay and Silent Bob characters appeared in a series of films, popping up every few years. It does smell of desperation, though. Smith must believe there is name recognition among a core [cult] audience for the title 'Clerks'. However, I wouldn't bet a dime that this will be a box-office success.

Clerks is the only movie of Smith's I've particularly liked - well, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was decent - and I thought Clerks II was OK, but a real missed opportunity. Also, are there many fast food joints with only one or two people working the kitchen at any given time?

its 'clerks' and 'dogma' for me and thats about it with mr. smith. something about that first 'clerks' still resonates with me. those 2 knuckleheads behind that counter are the only characters in any movie that i identify with.

I really liked Clerks 2 but everything Ive seen from Kevin since seems uninspired. Cop Out should be burned. Maybe he thinks he can be like Linklatter and we can check in on the Clerks once a decade like a donkey show Before Midnight.

Hmm. I was a massive View Askew fan...until Clerks 2 happened. That movie single-handedly killed my interest in anything Kevin has done since.

"Clerks" will always remain my favorite but, I enjoyed C2 very much. I'm fairly big fan.I even enjoyed Red State (Yoga Hosers, not so much.) Looking forward to Jay & Silent Bob Reboot and positively giddy for this release too.

A classic case of "Ah well best stick to what I do best!"

No harm in that I may add.

  13. Hard to say exactly from that selfie but it looks like Kevin's dumped a lot of weight. I sure hope so.

If they go forward with this, they should give the film title a good sub-title EG "Clerks III: the mop up"

Kevin looks horrible. I know he was way overweight, but yikes.

I was a huge fan in my teens and early twenties. 20 years ago, I was a regular poster on the old View Askew WWWBoard, where I formed friendships that continue to this day.

I liked Clerks II; I even liked Jersey Girl and Red State. What killed my interest in Kevin’s work was the weird horror movies he a few years ago. I’ll be back for Reboot, though, and look forward to Clerks III.

It’s great that Kevin has buried the hatchet with Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis and Jeff Anderson in the past few months.

I could always 'take-or-leave' his movies.....
HIS PODCASTS are what made me a fan...
I was 'on board' when he 'opened-his-heart' (bad-joke intended) about the failure of "Zach & Miri Make A Porno", and started smoking pot.

I really liked Clerks. And I thought Clerks 2 was pretty funny... but I can recognize it sort of sucked.

Looks like Kev is out of juice. Let him do it. There will be some sort of audience for this.

I liked Clerks 2 a lot. Its the only post-Dogma Smith movie I give a fig about. I'm seeing Jay and Bob Reboot next Feb with Jay and Kevin.

Props to him for losing as much weight as he did. But he just looks really weird now.

He "looks weird" because we're so used to Fat Kevin.

Objectively, the man in the pic on the right looks better than the man in the pic on the left.

He just looks off because we're used to the morbidly obese one...

I'm with you - sort of. I liked "Zach and Miri" but the rest has been pretty bad.

"Clerks 2" had its moments but felt like more of a cop out than "Cop Out".

I suspect that compared to "C3" or the new J&SB movie, though, "C2" will look like a classic! I have zero faith in Smith to make anything even mediocre, much less good...

I agree. Smith's movies have been downright terrible of late. The last one I saw that I vaguely liked was "Red State" and I recognize that's a film with quite a few problems.

As far as Smith's look these days, I realize he had to lose weight because of his health, but I think he went too far. He looks really old now.

It's the extra skin that is making him appear that way. It's a side effect from living obese for decades.
