I don’t see that happening. It didn’t happen with any of the previous mega sets (Steve hillage, sandy denny, wishbone ash etc).

Hi all, I'd like to order this set and am from Australia - however the Madfish shipping costs are prohibitive and they don't deduct UK sales tax - for example as JPC.de does. Is anyone aware if this will come out on general release via Amazon, JPC etc? I think from memory the Hillage, Family setc etc. did??

Also a shame that the set lists on the live sets have a lot of repetition (saying that so do the KC set lists on their boxes, but I enjoy the variety of instrumental passages in the same songs) - and also no classic live like Pentagruel's Nativity (the song through which I became aware of GG) - that in itself is a shame!

Not really...at least for me. The entire catalog remastered is of some interest to me, plus there`s the chance some live content will surprise us !!! I`m in, I placed my order.

That's fair. I would be interested in properly recorded live stuff, but history tells me that boots will get listened to once and that would be it. I am happy with the copies of the albums I have ... I certainly wasn't knocking the product, I just hope that the debut 5.1 gets a separate release at some point

Still on the fence about this. The music is phenomenal, to be sure, but it is a very expensive boxset. I do wonder how good we can expect the new remasters to sound, considering that a couple of albums have already been remixed by SW and released in hi-res, while the original mixes of the first three albums have also been flat-transferred and released in hi-res. We’re now getting the first album remixed, which is good, although I suspect they will offer it on a standalone basis at some point in the future. Then there’s the plethora of live material, which on paper looks great, but a good number of those shows are audience recordings. How high will the sound quality be on those? They should probably put in more effort to promote this collection, for example provide a few audio snippets of the audience recordings, so we can get an idea about the sound quality. On the other hand, Madfish have stated it’s their fastest selling boxset to date, so maybe they don’t really need any extra effort to have this flying off the shelves.

(I can't remember if I asked this already, but...) Is it less expensive (postage wise, VAT removal, anything else) or exactly equal price wise to order this from either Burning Shed or from Madfish (for those of us here in the States)? Kinda getting itchy to pull the trigger on this one.

Flat transfers in hi-res were also included with with the other two albums Steven Wilson mixed, Octopus and The Power and the Glory.

So by my estimation these items are missing (from other official studio album releases I know there are a bunch of live releases not included)

Three piece suite 5.1 and instrumental mixes

Wilson 5.1 and instrumental mixes of octopus and power and the glory (also aspirations instrumental outtake)

Free hand and interview quad mixes

Majority of tracks from under construction (I am presuming the live tracks are from some of those playing the fool shows)

All tracks from scraping the barrel cds. (Live in Torino and Live from pinewood from data disc here on cd and in the correct I presume order compared with its release on memories of old days)

All studio tracks from memories of old days (some live stuff from there)

7” edits, intro tape and peel session from I lost my head boxset.

I am pleased that some solitary bonus live tracks on three friends and glass house are here with the rest of their shows so those can be sold without regret.

    Am I missing anything?

Frustrating cause a lot of these could have been stuck on at the end of each cd to make this a really definitive set.

Then maybe throw on one more blu Ray to get the rest of the surround mixes.

    Oh well

Was the "Giant for a Day" album not toured? Looks like the title track is the only song from that album included. (Granted, most fans don't like that album, but I do). I was assuming that "Words From the Wise" and "Little Brown Bag" would have been good live numbers.

No, there was no GFaD tour. And yes, those two songs would probably have been great live, along with "Rock Climber".

While we're waiting on the box here's a performance from this years GORGG. That's Dan Bornemark playing keys in front with Kerry on the right side. Gary on the left and Pierre Bordeleau doing the singing. Can't name the bass player or drummer.

Thanks for posting this. John Kelman's first impressions are encouraging.
I suspected that Madfish approached this set like they did the Wishbone Ash box.
I'm glad they remastered the studio catalog. No regrets on pre-ordering this.
Gentle Giant has always been a favorite of mine.

I agree... and on that note, I am disappointed that the early studio outtakes Freedoms Child, Hometown Special, Weekend Cowboy, and Bringing Me Down (as released on Under Construction) are not included on this box. Hopefully they will also be remastered and included on a separate 5.1 CD/BLURAY release of the first album (along with the Winchester 1971 gig).

Do Madfish‘s other releases give any indication how likely it is that these new Gentle Giant remasters (and Steven Wilson’s remix of the first album) will be made available individually, be it on physical media or as downloads?

Off topic @jay.dee: I guess you chose that avatar because it‘s the cover of Paniagua/Atrium Musicae de Madrid‘s La Folia? Nice coincidence, I’m listening to La Spagna right now. Had asked myself what that cover is supposed to depict until now.. a mouse walking up a dune? :) Unknowledgeable me.. so it‘s a dog and painted by Goya. You live and learn..

Don´t know, but they would be "stupid" not to do it! They would sell more by doing so!
    So lets money talk! :)
