Do record companies generally chop up recordings like this? The Corelli 12 Concerti Grossi Op. 6 is well-known because of its Christmas Concerto ...

These are fine performances as well. Maybe a little too much Satie? :D

Yours may be earlier releases of the same recordings. I can't recall exactly when I bought mine, but it was at Barnes & Noble... back when they had a large classical CD section.

You got me curious enough to look up this series. What strange covers for classical records! Most of them look like they belong in advertisements for high end hair salons. Why not I guess? It’s the music that matters. I guess one could say they are distinctive.

Most of those Pentatone Multi Channel CDs are great. This one included. Excellent Multi Channel remixes.

I know what you mean; it shifts gears in unexpected ways, but I find it a fascinating ride.
That Simon Preston/Andre Previn performance certainly benefits from great sonics. If I had to pick a better one performance-wise, however, it would be the Maurice Duruflé/Georges Pretré 1961 recording, which elicits more drama and the organ is not so forward in the balance. One could also say it's closer to Poulenc's concept, since he was in attendance at the recording and had collaborated with Duruflé on the organ registration when composing it. My Angel reissue LP is shown below.

No albums to share with you folks tonight — power will be cut to much of Napa County in about an hour and 45 minutes.

See y’all on the other side.
