    Don't understand how people can not see the beauty in this music, Boulez Pli Salon Pli is about as beautiful and romantic as anything.

    Lots of folks struggle with twentieth century chromaticism and twelve-tone stuff. I happen to enjoy a lot of it, but it took time for me to come around. I think part of it has to do with the fact that most popular music and music we hear as kids is extremely tonal in a very conservative way and that limited type of music "colors" people's ears at an early age, so that when they hear something that doesn't conform to that narrow sound palate, it sounds "wrong" to their ears.

    That said, I'm glad I finally warmed up to it, personally. There is a lot of beautiful music from the past century that is worth hearing, and sadly many people have drawn a line which prevents them from hearing it with open minds / ears.

    I did now. Quite revelatory. Thanks for the tip. There were moments in this performance really top of the game. I guess it opened more widely my views and ears to the 3rd Lutoslawski symphony.
    As for Lintu the only thing I heard from him was is Sibelius cycle, which was right there high with best ones. I guess I have to keep my eyes more often in what he is doing. He was in Portugal last year but I couldn't attend to his concert. I hope he comes back soon, I will be there. And by the way, the man got style conducting, if that counts. :cool:

    Disc one. Fantastic playing, and very good mono sound (rather surprising since the concert was in 1973).

    The C minor Fantasy and Sonata from this excellent set. The SACD audio is superbly life-like.

    Not that it is out of the realm of possibility but, I admit I have never heard of that pianist. I take it her speciality is Russian Piano works?;)

    First listen to this collaborative project between Penderecki and Jonny Greenwood;
    [IMG]

    Penderecki's pieces, first and third in the sequence, lead the way and Greenwood's fresh compositions follow in a round about way. Really interesting contemporary works.
