I’ve used “shag” as a synonym for “retrieve” for a long time. Playing lacrosse as a kid the coach used to make us “shag” our shots that missed the net. ‘You shoot it, you shag it.’ Stuck with me ever since so Lathe’s argot makes perfect sense to me!
You can find the vast majority of the Daves in one handy dandy spot as well. They aren’t FLAC but they aren’t bad. Just gotta dig around for them. I won’t say where as the guy very clearly requests not to directly send anyone to his page.
After 40 days my Pacific Northwest Box finally arrives. Shipped by UPS with no shipping notice or tracking number.
12 November 1971- San Antonio, Tejas. Within the last year or so Charlie circulated That's It For The Other One > Big Railroad Blues from SBD > MR > DAT. 30 minutes of time on the Star Cruiser then WHAM! back to Earth on a train.
1969-05-03 has a killer Other One 1974-09-11--amazing show, PiTB is surely one of the 5 best versions they ever played of this number. Seastones>Jam>Eyes>Jam>Wharf Rat is one of the best, most astounding and unique segments ever!!! From about 13 minutes into “Seastones” the band starts to come back in, so I don't know if the next ~half hour is correctly called "Seastones"; Eyes intro takes its time, with Weir at first in the lead; it becomes a delicate weave before leading to the verse, and the post-Eyes jam makes this one of the jammiest segments ever--31 minutes from the intro of Eyes until the transition to Wharf Rat, which ends with a brief dark starry jam. GBTRFB is a tremendous version, although this is almost always the case to this point in their career, I think. Stupendous run; really, two stupendous runs in a row (8/4-5-6, and 9/9-10-11). More good music in these six shows than we got in all of July (actually that was only 6 shows too, so really I'm just saying these six shows are better than the previous six).
I think so as well....was inspired to write about it a few years ago. Talk From The Rock Room: Put the Boot In: "Doin That Rag"- The Grateful Dead May 3, 1969 Winterland
The recording in circulation is the first set, we do not have set 2 which naturally contains a Dark Star. PS- Excellent review, colorful and on point!
Currently listening to my ipod classic on shuffle-15,760 songs-and "Equinox "-Terrapin outtake-comes up. Don't bother. Excellent choice to leave that one out from the official release. Foul weather this weekend. I am tempted to have another Dark Star Saturday. Last time I got through 18 versions in one day. I think I can beat that.
