I listen to as much ultra obscure guitar based improvisational music as I can find on this streaming thingy I just started doing.

    Bill Nace
    Bill Orcutt
    Fred Frith
    Ava Mendoza
    Elliott Sharp
    Henry Kaiser
    Brandon Seabrook

All been played or to be played. Skronky pedal infested waters.

    Right now nothing sounds better.

I stay away from announcement to release every time, especially if it's a show I've never heard before.

You should consider buying something from your favorite of those artists' Bandcamp pages. None of those people are getting rich from streaming!

Also, check out Tashi Dorji. ;)

Dorji with Tyler Damon & Dave Rempis is what got me into this bind in the first place:)

Ha. indeed I buy exactly zero of them. When they lose the phony demand limited edition nonsense model then maybe I'll think about it. But probably not, I've had that show on cassette since 1996.

But I guess I haven't actually heard it because I haven't heard a new master of it on my 1990s vintage analog speaker system with the special amps and what not( I can't even do a credible satire of this,) woo!!! speakers@ !!!

Considering most of may 77 was released in two box sets, I would doubt this one gets the nod.

That 5 show Palladium run surely would be a contender for a future box. You've only got 4/30 released as a download. That leaves 5/18 and 5/26 (and parts of 5/22, which really should come out as a deluxe DiP3) as the last of the unreleased May 77. Perhaps the lesser of all the shows, but still better than the whole of 86.

Not a problem; most of those on Archive sound quite good indeed.

Or maybe October 2, 1977, from Portland (with some filler from the previous night's show)? That would make me very happy.

I would also absolutely vote with my wallet for a Palladium box set, and wouldn’t complain about the double dipping re. the previous download series release.

FWIW, I suspect the next Spring 77 DaP will be either Springfield or Philly, the beginning of the tour. I suspect Dave feels that either show are actually the ONE SHOW he’s always wanted to release, that almost made it many times but for any number of reasons, was not selected before...

I've noted this a few times here, and while DaP 31 won't go down in history as a great choice, the Terrapin--> Playin' segment is worth 100 listens. It's that good. Languid, and occasionally narcoleptic on Jerry's part, but well worth your time.

The whole show is quite languid, but it does have its moments as you have noted. Plus, there's 30 minutes of their more typically upbeat and fiery playing from the era as bonus material from 12/4/79 on disc 3, which is a good added bonus.

Perhaps 12/4/79 should've been the featured show, with the Terrapin>Playing from 12/3 as the bonus material.

Hmmm... You know, not a bad song at all! Not my usual stuff, but there is something to it, kind of a nice groove, I don't know...

I'm glad you mentioned it, otherwise I likely would have skipped it. Some nice guitar in it... Nice find for me, thanks! :)

Do you have the PNW shows, including 6/22/73? If so, give that HCS a listen. Forget the vocal and skip to 3:05 and listen to how the instruments mesh. This is everything the GoGD were about. It encapsulates their philosophy quite nicely and is a fine listen (things get nice and wild at 7:00). Basically it echoes Jerry's statement that when Phil is on, the Grateful Dead are on. No truer words...
