Some debate it, but I believe firmly that the Beatles are the greatest American band of all time.

I got it. The Bodé-ized, bastardized release:

    Drive My Car
    Day Tripper
    If I Needed Someone
    In My Life
    We Can Work It Out
    Norwegian Wood
    Nowhere Man

    Michelle
    Think For Yourself
    The Word
    I'm Looking Through You
    You Won't See Me
    Girl

It amazes me how superior this is to all other versions.

Close, but Drive My Car is not a Rubber Soul track.

We're all aware of this and even after Dexter was gone we got Yesterday and Today and the full LP of Magical Mystery Tour.
I get thar the band gave permission post new contract about MMT but Y&T is still post Dexter and MMT was still North America only.

    Good point.
They conquered America and America has never turned on them.

So, you're saying the music creators themselves, the Beatles, and their producer George Martin were all wrong in putting this track originally on the album and the Capitol executives' 'afterthought' on deleting this track was right? Mmmmmm.... .:crazy:
So you are saying these Capitol executives were more creative and artistic than Lennon & McCartney...... :biglaugh::biglaugh:

And they DID protest, but no, they couldn't do anything about it... until they renewed the contract in 1967 and demanded Capitol to respect the original configurations.

As for the money, are you really saying they had to return the money their music had made? The fact that they didn't like how Capitol handled their music doesn't mean they didn't have the right to claim their hard earned money.

  11. If I had to compile an album with the best tracks recorded during the late 1965 sessions, this is what I'd come up with:

    Drive My Car
    Norwegian Wood
    You Won't See Me
    Nowhere Man
    Think For Yourself
    We Can Work It Out
    Michelle

    Day Tripper
    What Goes On
    Girl
    I'm Looking Through You
    In My Life
    If I Needed Someone
    Run For Your Life

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read the OP.
I was not born in the US or UK but it never ceases to amaze me that many think one particular country (when it comes to musical releases) is virtually seen as the entire planet!

I would not want to butcher the finest rock LP (Yesterday & Today) in an attempt to improve the finest folk rock LP, (Rubber Soul (US)) - which is completely awesome as it is.

Funny, the "finest folk rock LP" cut out the song from the original album that openly referenced that style (If I Needed Someone). And Nowhere Man too. Yet they left in the rockers The Word, Think For Yourself, Run For Your Life... the folk rock LP myth.

Finest doesnt equate to most pure. Making the finest rock LP with of all time with Yeaterday and Today may have been their number 1 priority (it was at least the best part of the outcome). The only LP of any genre I prefer is my avatar.

    1. Formed as a band because they were completely inspired by American music. Check.

    2. Despite fame and fortune in Europe, did not consider themselves a success until they were a hit in America. Check.

    3. Consider the Ed Sullivan appearance as the apex of their broadcasting career. Check.

    4. Consider the Shea Stadium performance as the apex of their touring career. Check.

    5. Lived in America. Check.

    6. Married Americans. Check.

    7. Made American children. Check.

Maybe it's just me, but it sure looks like the Beatles were Americans.

No "Nowhere Man" or "If I Needed Someone", no Rubber Soul. Period, end of story.

Oh, and leave the single as what it was meant to be - a killer double A-side.

Agree completely. Ruins the Folk vibe entirely.

But we are in agreement that the perfectly congruent Paperback Writer should replace the ridiculously immature Yellow Submarine on Revolver, yes?
