The Soviet Union in the 1950s and 1960s was not a barrel of laughs and he was persecuted for years. I think he and Galina got out in the 70s.

The 25 euros price tag of the Pierre Monteux Complete Decca Recordings box on Amazon Germany was probably too good to be true - no price is mentioned now and the box is "temporarily unavailable". Some other Amazon sites still list October 25 as the release date. My order hasn't been cancelled (yet) by Amazon Germany, so here's hoping...

The same here and thanks for the heads up. I placed my pre-order on Amazon Germany and received the confirmation. So far so good as I also have not received any cancellation. Looks like it was another case of mispricing on Amazon ...

I have owned the Handel keyboard Suites I for years. But it is better late than never getting Suites II.

For the past hour I've been listening to the Haydn String Quartets, Op.20. No. 3 is playing at this moment.

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

I am streaming music this morning while still away on vacation. I have put together a playlist of all the albums of music available as conducted by Alexander Gauk, the Soviet era conductor. I have made another list for Golovanov, another favorite.

I have a small box set of recordings by Entremont. Some excellent performances. I saw him a few years ago conducting a Viennese Orchestra at a concert at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

I thought of the Spanish Moors when I saw the photos too but I though the term Moorish went out with the Elizabethans. Evidently not. :)

The Tears of the Muses Elizabethan Lute Music Kristian Buhl-Mortensen (2013, UC)

A reissue, really. New cover (and most probably, best flattering likeness of Old Bess). Competent renderings, almost deliberately straightforward. Streaming on most platforms.
