Fish Story - a Japanese film with several interconnected stories. Don't know how obscure this is really. One of my favourites anyway.
That reminds me I just watched him give a rather droll performance in an episode of The Man From UNCLE.
fandango used to have this taped off of pay tv on vhs .... watched it a lot in high school ... i still laugh atthe thought of that flight school instructor lol
Dinner Rush, 2000. Directed by Bob Giraldi. Starring Danny Aiello, Edoardo Ballerini, Sandra Bernhard, Mike McGlone, Kirk Acevedo. Good movie involving an Italian restaurant and the mob.
The Cooler, 2003. Directed by Wayne Cramer. Starring William H. Macy, Maria Bello, Alec Baldwin. About a guy in the Las Vegas Casino business.
The Proposition, 2005. Directed by John Hillcoat. Written by Nick Cave. Starring Guy Pierce, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Emily Watson. 1880s Australia, a brother is hired to track and kill his older brother. A remake of The Conqueror Worm, 1968.
Saw both of these little known but very good movies. If you see William H. Macy standing next to you at a blackjack table move to another table !
The Red Balloon (1956) Where The Lillies Bloom (1974) Phantom Of The Paradise (1974) The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane (1976) Caveman (1981) Purple Haze (1982)
One of the best westerns I've ever seen. The twist the knife suspense at the end as the couple starts to eat their dinner is like the best Hitchcock.
This was filmed near to my parents' hometown. We walked around on the set when they weren't filming. It was one of the last times my Grandma and I were together. The plot has very little to do with the story, but Sean is great. The wordless opening is one of the best things--it shows the bone crushing hell that coal mining was in the 1860's. Mancini's score is marvelous. When we saw it at the time of release, the theater was almost deserted. Epilogue: when I finally showed it to my Irish wife, she wept buckets at the beginning--the music and the awful conditions on screen are moving.
The Salton Sea, 2002. Directed by D. J. Caruso. Starring Val Kilmer, Vincent D'Onofrio, Peter Sarsgaard.
The Red Dog. Our Australian friends have probably seen it, but I don't even remember it being in theaters here. Tearjerker, but well done
BTW, can anybody recommend the best pressing of the lp ‘The Freewheeling Bob Roberts?’ Is it the mofi? The Japanese?
