Thanks for that! I thought I remembered that I'll Never Fall in Love Again was a hit too.

It was your post that inspired me to look TJ up. I knew INFIL had 2 chart runs but I didn't know the song actually goes all the way back to '65.

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

Tom used this song as the opening music for his 60s TV show, too. When I hear this song, I always expect to hear the TV version.

Great song! Jimmy Page on guitar as well -- some of his early session work.

Wow! I didn't know that! It will be fun to see the reaction I get when I tell my hard rock-loving buddies that!

That's always been one of my favorite musical trivia facts. Page also played on "I Can't Explain" by The Who and "Here Comes The Night" by Them, although there's been debate on whether it was lead or rhythm. Regardless, he got around session-wise in the mid-60s!

Tom Jones- Green, Green Grass of Home/Of I Had You
A #1 UK hit and a #11 hit in the USA in 1966. Tom goes country! A fine version, with Tom backed by sympathetic singers and some excellent piano. In the end he gets buried under that green grass but he didn't go down quietly. A good tune for Sunday morning.

    Tom Jones- Detroit City/Ten Guitars
This hit #8 UK and #27 USA in 1967. Bobby Bare also had a big hit with this Mel Tillis penned tune. Tom talks most this tale of a man who desperately wants to go back home. Tom's accent raises an eyebrow on the lyric.

    Tom Jones
Without Love/The Man Who Knows Too Much
A #5 USA hit and a #10 UK hit in 1969. The spoken intro from Tom is priceless. It sucks you right in. The song then gets a bit overblown during the chorus, but I still enjoy it.

Tom Jones became the heir apparent to the Vegas style of pop production starting back with What's New Pussycat through Help Yourself, It's Not Unusual and the overwrought Without Love. I liked most of these tunes, some a lot more than others despite the fact they were far from Rock & Roll in the late 60s. Cheese for sure but of a higher quality. He did the cry/sing very well, peaking on I'll Never Fall In Love .

I never noticed before how much he spoke on a lot of these songs. Makes me long for a Tom Jones Storytellers.

Tom Jones is a token soul brother! He's from Wales. That's all he needs. Some are from Scotland, like The Average White Band.

Funny fact: a couple of years ago, he got his DNA tested because he was sure he had some Black in him because of his hair. Nope, it turns out he doesn't. But...that voice!

I really like how you have all the factory sleeves for these records. 99% of the 45s I buy at estate sales/yard sales are naked!

Thanks! Finding those sleeves is probably the hardest part of collecting these. I actually bought a box of trashed 45's from a church sale a few years ago just because they were all stored in company sleeves.

I'll buy 45s on the cheap just for the sleeves and then try to match them up with my collection. However, most of my 45s are in plain white sleeves that I bought online.

I've got a supply of those too. They look nice when you put them on the records and are great replacements for any tattered originals that are past saving.
