    Love Is Strange

A great cover of a classic song. The reggae style is a plus a sign of experimentation and a fresh performance.

    Lyrics

    [Verse 1]
    Baby, love is strange
Many, many people take it for a game
My sweet baby, love is strange
    Yeah, yeah
Many many people, take it for a game
    Yeah, yeah

    [Chorus]
    Love is strange
    Love is strange

    Yeah, yeah
Many many people, take it for a game
    Yeah, yeah
    Love is strange
    Love is strange

    [Verse 2]
    Many people, they don't understand
They think that having love is like having money in the hand
My sweet baby, love is strange
Many, many people seem to take it for a game
Now let me hear you sing it!

    [Outro]
La, la, la, la, la, la
    Love is strange
Yes it is, I don't need you to prove it to me
La, la, la, la, la, la
    Love is strange
So many people seem to take it for
La, la, la, la, la, la / A game!
    Yeah, love is strange
Said, said it is, show me
La, la, la, la, la, la
    Love is strange
    Oh baby, baby, baby
La, la, la, la, la, la
    Love is strange
Yeah, yeah / Keep singin', keep singin' now

Single Pigeon - a little too cutesy for me. Saved by the horn solo. There is a horn solo, isn't there? Maybe I'm hallucinating. 2/5

When The Night - Not my favorite track on the record but not a worthless piece of trash like "Big Barn Red" either, ha ha, just sort of middle of the road. I guess the little acoustic guitar phrase at the start of the song is the main attraction for me. I like the "mellow yellow" backing vocals but the verses are li-li-li-li-li-li-lightweight. Only a 2 from me.

It s a bit surprising how many positive comnents we have seen so far about the songs from Red Rose Speedway . Ecspecially given the relative average ranking this album often get
I actually hold Red Rose Speedway close to my heart. It certanely ain t perfect and some great tracks from the era is missing. But what we have contains a very special vibes and warmth that is very inviting. There is not one song that sounds like the other but they still holds together so well. This is anothe Macca album that has aged extremely well. It still sounds fresh and time-less

    Wild Life

A wild song that fight against the destruction of the planet. The vocals are strong, powerful, wild. The backing vocals are perfect and the guitars are expressing the feelings of life.

    Lyrics

    [Intro]
The world "wild" applies to the words "you" and "me"

    [Verse 1]
While taking a walk through an African park one day
I saw a sign say, "The animals have the right of way"

    [Chorus]
    Wild life, whatever happened to
Wild life, the animals in the zoo?

    [Verse 2]
    You're breathing so hot
A lot of political nonsense in the air
    You're making it hard
For the people who live in there
    You're moving so fast
But, baby, you know not where

    [Chorus]
    Wild life (wild life)
    What's going to happen to
    Wild life (wild life)
    The animals in the zoo?

    [Verse 3]
    You'd better stop
    There's animals everywhere
And man is the top, an animal too
And, man, you just gotta care
    [Chorus]
    Wild life (wild life)
    What's going to happen to
    Wild life (wild life)
    The animals in the zoo?

    [Verse 2]
    You're breathing a lot
Of political nonsense in the air
    You're making it hard
For the people who live in there

    [Outro]
    Wild life (wild life)
What's going to happen to (whatever happened to, whatever happened to)
    Wild life (wild life)
The animals in the zoo? (Whatever happened to, whatever happened to)

    (Wild life
Whatever happened to, whatever happened to
    Wild life
Whatever happened to, whatever happened to)

    Ah, la-la-ah (wild life)
Whatever happened to (Whatever happened to, whatever happened to)
    Ah, ah, ah (wild life)
The animals in the zoo? (Whatever happened to, whatever happened to)
    Woo, woo
    Wild life (wild life)
Whatever happened to (whatever happened to, whatever happened to)
    Wild life (wild life)
Whatever happened to (whatever happened to, whatever happened to)
    Woo, woo

    (Wild life

    Paul's own words:

    2018

"‘Wild Life’ was to do with me having gone on safari and actually seeing that sign that I sing about: ‘The animals have the right of way’. Which really impressed me. You just realise the sort of dignity and strength of wild animals because here they’ve got the right of way. Whereas we’re all so full of our own importance. It’s kind of nice, you know. You’re just a guy in a Land Rover. You don’t matter so much! So that was why I wrote that song. Man, you know, we’re the “top species”, and yet we’re the ones who eff it up, which is not right. "

I’m a fan of this one. It took hearing one of the live versions to get me into it, but now it’s a favorite of mine! Some of the lyrics are slightly eye roll worthy (rhyming mellow and yellow... hmm) but overall it’s a great performance and I even like the little mouth guitar thing he does during the solo. And yeah the na na na na na na na na night! Is pretty great!

First, a bit of background: As those following this thread have probably noticed, the early '70s is among my least favorite periods of Paul's career (tied with the mid-'80s). After an album that I mostly despised (Ram) and one I was just indifferent to (Wild Life), I was grasping at straws to try to still be a Paul fan. And I didn't care for a lot of RRS.

Single Pigeon was my lifeline. Delicate, poignant, and simply and beautifully sung, this 2 minute jewel is the song that told me Paul wasn't dead, that the guy who wrote Blackbird and Let It Be still lived and might still return to past glories. This was the song that gave me hope. I loved it then and I love it now, far and away my favorite song on the album and in my top 5 of his pre-BOTR years.

As one who doesn't like the album nearly as much as you do, I agree it's an odd beast -- even odder considering the other tracks he recorded in the same general time period and might have included. Some of Paul's choices do puzzle me.

Kind of doubt it. I'm pretty harsh on parts of the album. Now the one two punch of those first two tracks may just be the greatest opening of any album period, not just any Paul album.

    Some People Never Know

This is a beautiful ballad song. A highlight. The combination of sounds is wonderful and the lyrics are strong. The harmonies are just perfect. At the end a lovely sensory experience. Bravo!!!

    Lyrics:

No one else will ever see
How much faith you have in me
Only fools would disagree that it's so
    Some people never know

Like a fool I'm far away
Every night I hope and pray
I'll be coming home to stay and it's so
    Some people never know

Some people can sleep at nighttime
Believing that love is a lie
I'm only a person like you, love
And who in the world can be right
    All the right time
I know I was wrong, make me right, right

Only love can stand the test
    Only you outshine the rest
    Only fools take the rest
Only fools take second best, but it's so
    Some people never know

Agree there were odd choices. Since witnessing Wings live 1972 I was expectingcsome of the songs from the gig like the Mess, Best friend, Soily, Saycyou don t mind and à few others.
I think Paul and the band were smoking lot s of jazz-tobacoe at the time and Paul were very undecisive and lacked some confidence. With that said-strange as it is I like the album. Warts and all

    I Am Your Singer

A lovely song. Linda's voice is good and unique.

    Lyrics:

    [Verse]
You are my love, you are my song, linger on
You are my song, I am your singer
You are my one, you are my own melody
You are my song, I am your singer

    [Chorus]
    Someday when we're singing
We will fly away, going winging
Sing, singing my love song to you

    Someday when we're singing
We will fly away, going winging
Sing, singing my love song to you

    [Outro]
    My song is sung
When day is done harmonies will linger on
    I am your singer
    I am your singer
Singing my love song to you

    2018

"On things like ‘I Am Your Singer’ - and, well all of them – I really love Linda’s voice. I think it’s very distinctive and she sings well. I’m sort of listening for it being what the critics said - you know, ‘Oh, she’s not very good’. But her tone is great."

Loup -first som indian on the moon
This dopey instrumental have gained lot s of bad rap through the years. Admittedely it s not a real song more of a stoned jam. Without a doubt Paul left a treasure of songs out of the album that perhaps deserved a place inte album more than Loup.
With all that said I must admit I find Loup a fun listening experience. There are some great musicianship not least Pauls bass and the whole thing has a certain groove that s I like. If there is one track I should not like it s this one -but I do enjoy listening to this weird
and dumb ”song”. Not least the drums /bass part in the middle of the song
It also serves as a bridge to the long medley that ends the album
    Dumb but fun
It even managed to get on Rolling Stones list of Pauls12 weirdest songs ever. Here is what they had to say
Macca goes Laser Floyd. This trippy instrumental suite from Red Rose Speedwayfeels like a man drowning in an ocean after midnight with only a bassline to save him.
    (Rolling Stone)
Here is Pauls own words on Loup

PM.com: Do you remember where something like ‘Loup (1stIndian On The Moon)’ came from? It’s so different from everything else on the album.

Paul: Because it’s an album track we had a bit more room to manoeuvre. And I think it’s the rebellious aspect of Wild Life coming back in. So you’ve got ‘My Love’, and that’s a proper song. You’ve got some other proper songs on the album. But then we’ve got something like ‘Loup’, where it was sort of a bit of fun for us. It’s pretty experimental. But we didn’t ever play it live, it was just something fun that only existed in the studio.

Sorry it’s a touch late, but I love this version:

(Synching could be improved slightly and vocal volume lowered or more compressed especially at the beginning, but otherwise it’s quite fab; wish they released it on the album this way!)

Single Pigeon - I've soured on this one a bit recently. It's a decent, enjoyable tune, but nothing more. Then again, maybe it doesn't need to be anything more.

When The Night - My second favorite on the album after Little Lamb Dragonfly. I love the way Paul sings the line "I never will forget the way, you taught me how to swing and sway."

Loup - Amazing. Paul goes Pink Floyd. One of his best instrumental tracks.
