Album covers that feature mushrooms

Discussion in 'Music Corner' started by groundharp, Feb 16, 2019.

  1. A picture I posted of one of these growing in my yard got deleted. Maybe this one will survive because it's on an album cover.

ABBDutchFan already posted this on the previous page. With only 3 pages in this thread so far, you don't have the excuse that you couldn't check to see if someone else had posted this first.

I love this album. I still have my original LP bought after randomly hearing it in a record shop while on holiday in Ireland.

Well.... that's not necessarily the artwork but the logo of record company "Pilz". Founded by BASF as sister label to "Ohr" in 1971, notorious Kraut entrepreneur Rolf Ulrich Kaiser envisioned it as offshoot for his more folky, mellow acts. Unfortunately everything was over by 1972 and 20 albums later. Popol Vuh remain probably the internationally best known act on "Pilz".

"Pilz" is German for any kind of fungus/ mushroom/ mold btw. That they went with a (potentially deadly) popart Amanita Muscaria as logo says a lot about the zeitgeist.
