That one may be the greatest post-1977 of them all, at least for me. Top 3 without a doubt next to "The King of Rock'n'roll" and "Reconsider baby".
But now you must. Or else the vengeful spirit of J.D. Sumner will dive-bomb you from beyond the grave.
Definitely. Even though the mainstream releases have slowed down during the last few years, there are so many releases to go through. How about discussing the essential releases only? I can try to help create a list.
These are what I was looking at doing.... and there aren't too many singles that I think need to be looked at, because most are just on the albums, and essentially promo releases anyway. Singles are generally from those albums and seem like they can be incorporated into the conversations about any set we are on. Please give me your input folks Cheers Mark
I'll give it a further look but that looks pretty good to me. We can probably get by with having the Time Life series as a single entry, as only the bonus tracks were new IIRC.
As for the Ftd's .... I was thinking of Making that two threads. The Albums and Sessions, and then the Live stuff If we decide to go through with it, We would run through the outtakes and such from Elvis Presley, Elvis, the Jailhouse Rock Ep's etc. If we decided to go through with it - we would run through the live ftd's on a separate thread. I would certainly need help with this, as I have possible 10 or there abouts. Like I say, this is merely if everyone wants to continue on, and we could reassess at various stages what we want to do. Just ideas at the moment.
and that's where I would need help from you guys, because I know nothing about anything there ... I have the Number one's dvd-audio and that's it lol
Aside from anything else don't we need to combat the Beatles are the only band that matters seven hundred threads a day? Just joking Beatles fans, I'm a Beatles fan too
Also, there are hundreds of FTD releases, many that have been superseded by subsequent, more complete releases. Additionally, there are some very in-depth, informative FTD threads already in existence. @mark winstanley, a suggestion would be to narrow the FTD discussion when the time comes.
I'm sort of looking at it as a sessions thread... But really it's just an idea at the moment, by the time we get there it would depend if people still want to play. I mean we've been at it over a year already
My vote is for discussing every FTD release on this thread, preferably in the order in which they were released, alongside other major contemporary releases (e.g., 30 #1 Hits, Close Up, etc.). The existing FTD threads are very lengthy, and sometimes the discussion see-saws back and forth between topics/releases. With Mark's format and Reference Guides, it's much easier to locate discussions on a given song/album.
If we did it that way, it would probably work out to be Thread 4 Elvis the posthumous years 1978-1998 Thread 5 Elvis the FTD years 1999- .... I guess that way we could have deeper looks at things like the That The Way It Is box and such in a release timeline order. We can touch on superceded albums, and save the in depth for the updated versions... Still just thoughts
As long as it is not a Department of Redundancy Department. I don't even see the need to include the Time Life stuff. And I would prefer FTDs have their own separate thread. On your list I have missed Great Country Songs (1996) and Heart And Soul (1995).
I know very little about this, so please bear with me here...what is the story here? Why did RCA junk those tapes? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. And how do they find a tape like "Harbor Lights" and then lose it again?
The only reason to is the bonus tracks, most of which at the time were unique I think? Plus, at least with the bigger releases it helps put them in historical context of how Elvis was treated by his label at the time.
