I think Mike gets a lot of unfair criticism but not sure he is deserving of this.

Whether you love him, hate him or are indifferent, his work with Brian in the 1960's merits his inclusion and is well-deserved.

His lyrical work on the Wild Honey album is sublime. I hope he gets in.

I guess he belongs, but I wouldn't go as far to say he's a Genius songwriter.
Most of everything he did good, was with Brian.
A couple of neat moments post, but nothing spectacular, as a 'songwriter'.
He did have commercial lyrics, but personally, someone like Van Dyke is much worthy.
When WAS the last great Mike Love song He composed?
    Cool Head, Warm Heart? maybe?
    That's a good one actually!

He should be in the ROBBERY Hall of Fame for STEALING the Beach Boys brand from Brian!

"To me, Brian (Wilson) gave Mike Love the one thing that no one else would have ever given him: a job singing in a band!"

and Brian said Mike had the best bass vocal around...I agree...his bass was perfect for the Beach Boys...really got to hear and appreciate it on the Sea Of Tunes CD Series...

    I'm 100 percent on that!
    His bass vocals are superb!
Forget the nasal stuff, that baritone!
    Wow!
A highlight of the BB vocals for sure.

Brian has never been in the proper mental state to make those decisions and Mike Love pounced!!

When they had the reunion a few years back Brian expected and wanted to continue but Mike makes more money running the brand into the ground with his "Mike Love Band" pretends to be the Beach Boys thing..

    Mike runs a tight ship.
His mastered being a business man and a money making musician and keeping costs down.
Brian tours only in luxury. As we know, touring isn't his greatest vessel and he has more special 'needs'.
It has been known Brian doesn't really make a lot of money touring.
Perhaps he does pretty well, but the band are mostly there for the ride.
Unlike McCartney's guys who do very well.

Brian has never been in the proper mental state to make those decisions and Mike Love POUNCED!!

Im sure Brian did NOT approve of Mike suing him a few years ago and we KNOW that Brian wanted to keep the reunion tour they did a few years back going but greedy Mike makes big $$ by running the brand into the ground with the Mike Love Band pretends to be the Beach Boys thing

You should read Mike's book for a different take on it.

    It's a wonderful book!
It explains his point of view to everything in great detail.
Whether he is right or wrong? It'll be forever debated.

I don't mind him, but it devalues the idea of the songwriter hall of Fame. He's not a songwriter, he's a lyricist who makes cosmetic changes to already existing songs. He's not a Taupin who writers songs and others add the music to it, but someone who suggest hooks and lines for songs not quite finished. Sometimes these are great and well deserving of the co-credit, but not really deserving of the Hall of Fame.

    Interesting Yes.
Almost every Beach Boys hit though has a Mike Love input.
I don't know how that's valued, but the proof has been in the pudding
    with those 60's big hits....
but a Hall Of Fame songwriter?
I guess it's warranted, I just don't think of him as an 'incredible' songwriter I guess.

I'm sorry but as a songwriter myself I feel offended by this. Even in his tweet he's not reacting as a songwriter: he mentions the 150 shows he perform but not the songs he 'wrote'. A songwriter doesn't really care about performing; he writes songs...

  24. How many time is this BS going to be repeated?
Brian (along with the other owners of Brother Records) gets a portion of the proceeds from Mike's Beach Boys road show by the terms of a licensing agreement freely agreed to by majority vote. Licensing is not the same as stealing.
