My guess is that a lot of this is a result of corporate consolidation in the film industry.

Did Jeff Goldblum compare Woody Allen films to theme park rides?

I guess when you can't attack the message very credibly, go after the messenger.

This is really is funny. Marvel fanboys finding out the movies are just pulp entertainment and not actual good films are acting like they just found out there's no Santa Claus.

    Kind of cute.

Why? Because he said he’d still work with Woody Allen, who was cleared by two investigations and has never been found guilty of anything?

That's cute but everyone knows the supporting actresses turn in great performances in Scorsese films. That was never the point under discussion and there's no need to raise it again if you didn't get it the first time. It must be fun to invent a false premise like "never speak" and then get to feel like you have the final word, though.

To be fair, it usually is women who get best actress noms...

  15. Well that’s very condescending. It’s also snobby and absolutely unnecessary. First, there have been strong arguments for both and to ignore that is less than sincere.

as far as Marty goes, I and others have pointed out that he’s a great filmmaker but that doesn’t mean he gets to define what a good movie is based on his taste. One point that is valid is that these, like the Star Wars films and other films like these are used for merchandising. I’d also point out that Toy story, The incredible, A Bug’s Life and inside Out all critically acclaimed films made for a broad audience (but primarily for kids) also have theme parks elements about them and are worked on by committee just as the Marvel films are with key creative people helping to direct these projects for a mass audience.

No, perhaps it’s simply the fact that they are good movies. They may not be Citizen Kane but there are plenty of films that aren’t Citizen Kane and manage to be entertains good movies.

Yeah, thank St. Marty for removing the scales from our eyes. We now know that comic book movies are crap - we just thought we enjoyed them, but the truth is revealed!

    All hail St. Marty!

Jeff is the ultimate night time guest raconteur. Articulate, opinionated in a seemingly thoughtful way, plays piano entertainingly, suave and just says what he wants to say appearing as if he is trying to play the game. Love the guy for all of that. He can take the heat...

Just watched The Irishman. I’d sooner believe a man can fly than De Niro being in his 40s... Just kidding, really liked it.

Of course you enjoyed them. Who doesn't enjoy theme park rides?

    PS. Just a joke.

This thread? Tl:dr. My take is that the superhero trend a result of the video game generation being the sought-after audience, and writers being of that generation.

well, at least most people can see Marvel movies in a theater if they'd like. And not within a narrow 'window'.
