It was close for me. Romero would be my #2.

Well, Elliott Gould gets my Philip Marlowe vote over Robert Mitchum. But Mitchum is still the right answer. :)

I’ve always thought that Will Smith nailed his character in Ali.

With all due respect to Jack Lemmon, Tony Randall is the only Felix Unger.

Surprised this one hasn't popped up yet, unless I overlooked it:

It’s no big deal but mind blowing how many just can’t grasp the concept of the OP or flat choose to ignore it.

  17. Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance. I enjoyed the performances by Henry Thomas in Doctor Sleep and Steven Weber (and Thomas is playing Jack playing Jack I suppose) in the TV version but Nicholson became Torrance.

  18. Robert Conrad and Ross Martin as James West and Artemis Gordon. The horrible film featuring Will Smith and a Kevin Kline can’t even touch the hem,of the original much less the performances.

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is the first one that came to mind for me.

Here is a tough one: who was a better Al Capone, Robert De Niro in The Untouchables or Stephen Graham in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire? Even though De Niro is one of my favorites, I might have to go with Graham. Might be an unfair comparison though since De Niro was only in a supporting role in a 2-hour film, while Graham played Capone for five seasons.

Somebody should give some thought to Neville Brand as Al Capone. He portrayed the role in 1959 for the pilot for The Untouchables television series, and came back for a few episodes in its early run.
