At one time, scientists used to study science, creating cures and inventions that have benefited humankind.

Now they study pop songs.

Depending on what day of the week it was, John may have loved or hated anything.

Not being a regular reader, I hadn't realize that the NME publishes humor pieces, too.

Well, the value of any music is not in science or textbooks. It's in the interpretation of the art by the consumer. And this consumer indeed loves the song. But best ever? I can't quite go there. Now maybe I Will... :)

I imagine such scientific studies might also come back saying songs like Daydream Believer, Groovin' or Waiting For A Star To Fall are not great pop songs! Thus, it's hard for me to entertain this kind of thing seriously. :p

    Best pop song EVER?!?

The article says the research project only surveyed songs recorded between 1958 and 1991, fer cryin' out loud.

Which means the survey missed this pop music gem:

In my opinion, it’s a great song. Lennon didn’t like it because he was incapable of writing from another person’s perspective, and didn’t respect it when Paul did just that.

All I know, is I saw a local band play it last week, and the crowd went nuts singing along, hooting and hollering and cheering!
