Thanks for this. Forget about the Chinchilla and gaze upon Robin's favourite hiding place "the chapel"!!!!!!!! A converted music room replete with scads of platinum records and an odyssean heating bill. I can imagine that being the place where he once held a party and no one came.
How Deep Is Your Love transcends the 70s. It's maybe the best love songs of the decade and one of the best ever.
Awesome! Trafalgar is great. Some lovely songs on that album. To Whom It May Concern is in my top 3 Bee Gees albums, and is among my all-time favorites, period.
It is, and I need to pull that off the shelf again. If you like those, I suggest you also check out: Two Years On Life In Tin Can Mr. Natural Best of Bee Gees Vol 2 has some non album singles from that era. Disc Two of Tales box is outstanding and covers highlights of 1970-1974 quite well.
To Whom It May Concern and Cucumber Castle (just found a German red Polydor with 'US hit album' hype sticker in the wild) are my favorites from that middle era. Trafalgar still hasn't quite spoken to me on a whole after years of listening, same with 2 Years On- but that one has "Portrait Of Louise", in my top 10 songs of theirs.
Really odd that they'd use that considering Geoff Bridgford had been made an official member of the Bee Gees in March that year. He was featured just about everywhere by this point. Maybe ATCO didn't get the memo?
I’m sure I’ll be getting all of their stuff. I’m trying to savor listening to something new so I’m taking my time, or trying to....
Good strategy, but not knowing your format of choice, I do caution you to grab older catalog CDs if/when you come across them in the wild. Sadly, much of the Bee Gees catalog is OOP. If you are a digital user, I think all of the albums are available on iTunes/spotify.
There's a nice chunk of b-sides and other non-album material to look for as well, most of which can be found on the aforementioned Tales box set. Highly recommended set for any novice.
Outside of the specific Saved by the Bell set, no, unfortunately not. Dwina and RJ were eager to put out both the 50 St Catherine's Drive album and that one but have yet to move on the rest. RJ was reportedly digging through his dad's tapes but haven't heard much after that. Blue Weaver wants to remix the album he and Robin wrote and produced for Jimmy Ruffin but wanting to and getting to are two different things.
I should add that since Robin's 80s albums are tied to the deal with Capitol it is just about as much to do with Capitol's willingness to do anything with those. The fact that they aren't doing much of anything with the rest of the Bee Gees catalogue means those are even lower on their list of priorities. At least Barry wouldn't have a say in regards to his brothers' output so he can't in the way of those. Hopefully RJ won't decide to do any vocal overdubs or remixes to them.
