Watched first two episodes. Quite a few laughs, and the chemistry between the two is obvious.

We use the 'Morse code' line now

I have watched 6 episodes now and I want to like this show but it is so flat. It seems like the actors can't decide if it's a profound slice of life show or a comedy. This is a tricky type of comedy to do well I think; the American show Shameless did it perfectly.
I have a problem enjoying the Michael Douglas character. His relationship to everyone is so internally focused he doesn't interact with anyone emotionally(which is the point I know but he isn't interacting at all). He appears to be the Charlie Sheen character in Two and a Half Men but older and that's been done. On the other side Susan Sullivan as Alan Arkin's dead wife and Danny Devito as the proctologist get it and they have fun with their roles.
It has wonderful plot points, I love the conversations Alan Arkin has with Susan but the rest falls flat for me. I also think Michael and Alan haven't jelled. Many of their scenes have an improvised look and that dialogue is stiff between them. They act like they want to be Laurel and Hardy but they come off as Abbot and Costello.
But it won a Golden Globe apparently so what do I know?

Yeah, its a helluva show. The scene this season with the kid and the pringles can was priceless.

Really enjoying this show. I'm currently up to the bit in Season 2 where Martin Schneider has a heart attack in the restaurant.

I watched season 1 but have not gotten to season 2 yet. I've always enjoyed Alan Arkin, and season 1 saw some of his best work. Deadpan hilarity is his calling card, but he mixed it beautifully with emotional anguish.

He does! He's so good here that I want to go back and see everything he's done. (I've not seen much of his work.)

Finished 1 & 2 from season 2 last night. Still top notch writing, even better than Mom.

All these actors from shows from bygone days, it's like playing spot the actor.
For those not in ep 2 yet, we have another Douglas co star from his past cinema days doing a funny turn

Wonderful show, my wife and I wrapped Season 2 the other night, highly recommended!

And yes, the cameo by a former Douglas Co-Star was a treat.

The writing on this show is absolutely first-rate. Not a wasted word. The acting is up to the level of the material, and I find both Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin's characters totally believable.

I really do like this show. I think Series 2 might have been even better than Series 1.

We blazed through season 1 a couple months back, can't wait to start season 2. I love these characters and the glimpse into old-school Hollywood. Arkin is a national treasure.

It's extremely funny and sharp, but I was also surprised how emotional I got during some of the episodes. Even so the show is never manipulative or trite.

Hard to believe this is from the laughtrack king Chuck Lorre. I'm so impressed.
