On January 24, 2020, BMG will release a one-CD/two-LP set of supposedly freshly remastered versions of 28 recordings by the Dave Clark Five. It remains to be seen how these will actually sound, but it looks like old Dave has finally wised up. The amazon.co.uk link is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-Hits-Dave-Clark-Five/dp/B07ZW9ZGH7/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ETI8MWNRV3N3&keywords=dave+clark+five+cd&qid=1573569693&s=music&sprefix=dave+clark+five,aps,217&sr=1-1 (No Amazon US link yet.) The collections are priced at a reasonable $12/$30. I hope Mike Smith's estate will see some of the proceeds, but I doubt that it will. As you can see from the list of songs, things kind of fade about twenty songs in, reflecting the sad withering of the Tottenham Sound in 1967 and beyond. Universal Love! 1. Nothing like waiting until most of your fans are either dead or deaf to finally release a greatest hits package. KIDDING! :--) I know they released a 2CD compilation on Hollywood Records back in the early 90's. But it's been a long time coming for a remaster.
I've had this import CD from EMI for several years. Paid about $6 to $8 at a thrift store. Only one I've ever seen. It's a lot more expensive on Amazon. I don't think the thrift store had any idea what they were selling. It was hard to conceal my excitement.
Sorry, there's no point in this. It's the same 'ol. Where's the box set that has been rumored for years? There's still supposedly unreleased material from the 60s. How about complete albums, remastered from the tapes, with their CORRECT track lineups with bonuses? Remixes? Anything other than a repackaging of the only scraps he's ever given us.
Totally agree! I am glad i have some Russian bootlegs with their albums and some bonus tracks as that seems to be the best way i could get their music on cd. Regardless i will still buy this cd, as i will take anything DC5 i can get !
How is this different than The Hits released in May, 2019? I guess it's a physical release. These remasters are very good, though many are still in mono.
Needs "At The Scene", "Concentration Baby", "Inside And Out", "Maze Of Love" (I love the Five's half-hearted attempts at psychedelia). The covers they started to do near the end were embarrassing, coulda left them off. Still, I suppose it's good to see a reissue of The Hits; and, the first 20 tracks are all killer. I agree with an earlier post, about reissuing the actual '60s albums. Maybe using the Beatles U.S. albums reissue from a few years back as a template. Won't happen, sadly.
Unnecessary for me. Analog upstairs : The Dave Clark Five - The Dave Clark Five's Greatest Hits Digital downstairs : The Dave Clark Five - The History Of The Dave Clark Five
MYKE has it right. The History Of The Dave Clark Five 2-CD set can still be had for reasonable money on Amazon -- 50 tracks!
I am as big a fan of the DC5 as anyone, having bought all of their US albums until the Bitter End. But before you ask for full blown, deluxe reissues of each original album, plus outtakes, be careful what you wish for. Of the 30 minutes of material that Epic generally included in these albums, at least 20 minutes was filler, and that is grading the songs very generously. These hits packages are really all that pass the bounds of human decency and, while an outtakes collection would be nice, given the questionable circumstances under which the good stuff was created (think: session musicians), such a package is unlikely.
DC is such a wanker. It is too late to reissue the entire DC5 on CD (they should just do one of those Sony full catalogue style boxes at least) or an LP set. Every twenty years he puts out a hits set then pulls it form circulation..
That's an opinion. There are lots of great DC5 album tracks. I can find at least half or more to enjoy on almost all of them. A few of the outtakes that have surfaced, like "Looking Around", are quite good.
Why would you want this when you could have the superior original by the writer Callow-La-Vita by Raymond Froggatt
