My MMJ 45 of this album arrived at my doorstep today and I'm spinning it as we speak. Holy smokes it sounds incredible. Vibrant and 3D. It's like a musical playground dancing around my ears.

So funny coming from someone who had recently said the album wasn't for him! But like I said previously, my latest listen of Point of Departure really triggered something in me that opened a window through which to see and hear this album in a whole new light. I love when that happens.

    Seriously, this sounds amazing.

This one is infrequently mentioned and flies under the radar, somewhat — but wow, this is one dark and moody masterpiece . . .

One of my top-5 favorite albums and I've heard many versions over the last 40 years, but nothing compared to the MMJ. First time I heard it I nearly wept.

"Sold the AP45 the same night"...in Italy is a "marchetta "...after every one have their taste and ears and I think that all AP and MM 45 RPM owners can say that the quality sound is the same: among the best realizations ever

I am just hoping MMJ announce some new 33rpm SRX issues for the New Year.

    Bobby Hutcherson - Happenings
    Graham Moncur - Evolution
    Sam Rivers - Fuchsia
    Wayne Shorter - Soothsayer

    Would do for starters!

Evolution is one of my very favorite MMs! I can’t believe it’s still available. Anyone who doesn’t have should snatch it up while you can!

Great start! Think I pile on...

    Henderson - Mode for Joe
Mclean - One Step Beyond (w/o the glitch)
    Mobley - The Feelin's Good
    Turrentine - Jubilee Shout

And honestly, I would prefer having the two Hancock records on MMJ SRX than BN80.

....going thrue this list ... i remember calling MM to find out if they have some copy off Happenings sitting somewhere in the corner, surprisingly the person who answered my call was Ron! What a great guy! I was talking to him and he said that all those copies are gone...and i was asking him if he would consider repressing them but he told me that he thinks that will be hard to sell another 2k run or so...
I think Happenings would do extremely well on SRX format, same as The Soothsayer...
I would buy those 2 X 2 on the spot!

I tend not to make hopeful "wantlists/requests"....

But I will say this about SRX: If more titles come out, I highly doubt any of them will be titles already issued like 8-10 years ago and for which they still have inventory. So Grachan Moncur? No. Don't see it happening. Sam Rivers, no. McLean's Destination Out, no. Turrentine's Jubilee Shout, no....

Happenings to me would make sense from the standpoint that it has been out of stock for a good long while. Maiden Voyage would make sense. Somethin' Else would make sense. Ready for Freddie would make sense, etc.

Great list — as you've probably seen, I played 2 of those which are fantastic. Both Evolution and Fuchsia Swing Song are still available, albeit in 2 x 45 format. I'd love the other 2 on SRX though. Come on MM, make it happen!

Agreed! One of the very best in my opinion :righton:

Any of these lesser known titles (to me) recommended or worth picking up?

Tina Brooks Back To The Tracks
    Donald Byrd The Cat Walk
    Sonny Clark Cool Struttin'
    Kenny Dorham Whistle Stop
    Kenny Drew Undercurrent
    Elvin Jones Genesis
Freddie Redd Quintet Shades Of Redd

They're going for reasonable prices at the moment.

That’s a helluva list. I have a list of 15 I’d like and all but the Byrd are on my own list. Buy ‘em all, don’t look back and thank yourself later.

Definitely Back to the Tracks. I also love The Cat Walk and it's a steal at $35. Can't speak for the others but I highly recommend those two!

Yeah, it's a list of the ones I've been humming and harring over outside of the obvious 'must-have' ones. One could argue they are all worth getting though!
