She did a sit down segment and performed a full band song. She also did CBS this morning with a similar band that are probably pick up musicians who only learned the 1 song. The EIG album is probably older than all of them.

How many here are actually enjoying this new song?

Haven't watched the live performances but I like the song. It sounds genuine, not calculated.

Caught show...liked tune! :) Aren't a lot of musicians incorporating pop into their music now? Except for metal/hard r., they seem to be, i.e. 2019 Cage The Elephant & The Black Keys.
It's a way of remaining viable. A lot of country is "contemporary" country...which, is basically country-pop. For me, nothing wrong w/genre-blending.

P.S. Watching the interview, I thought she'd looked like a blonde Molly Shannon. Sound is similar to Sheryl Crow...wonder why she remained more of an indie artist.

Liz's music has always been pop oriented and when she gives full vent to that side, it makes for some great albums like Whipsmart and Space Egg. My regret about all the flack she gets from her fans about everything needing to be Exile 2 is that I think it intimidates her into not doing more of this type of ephemeral stuff for fear of being judged. Let Liz be Liz damnit!

  10. Why?
The Beatles, Stones, Who, etc. lol wanted success. You can’t eat, you can’t create.

Haven't seen live footage of Liz in a while. She looks great, it's just a little surprising to see her in 'mature' mode.

It’s not mind blowing, but it’s a good catchy song! She sounds good, seems confident, and looks great. I’ll probably have that chorus stuck in my head all day.

Haha. The music biz was quite different when those bands were at their peak vs. Liz Phair’s time. They created strong music for decades and were very successful with very little sacrifice towards their own visions. I’m not sure that I understand your point.

We are all “fuller” than we were twenty years ago.

Looks like a full CD/LP release is on way Spring 2020! Based on whitechocolatespaceegg & this first song, Good Side, it may be a pre-order for me.:)
From Pitchfork: "Phair also said that “Good Side” will appear on her next album, which she plans to release in spring 2020."

I think the new song sounds and feels like a bit of a follow-up to "Polyester Bride" from an older/wiser perspective.

Her book is very enjoyable - an upper tier musician's book/memoir.

Why do you say that? Is she notorious for not committing to scheduled release dates? o_O:confused:

    Yes, you can say that....
I wouldn’t say that this recent news is a confirmed date, either. But five or so years ago she announced that two new albums would be coming out, then there was a new album that she was working on with Ryan Adams. Just be cautiously hopeful at this point!
