Continue the Strata East roll, Step by Step, and I get Charles Tolliver too. Title track has very funky bass line and fortunately doesn’t fade out (my pet peeve along with vocals ) as it was appearing it might but ends with some solo bass

Or Joe Morris and Do Yeon Kim duets on guitar and guyageum. They have a release out on Morris's label, available on bandcamp. Macrocosm, by Joe Morris and Do Yeon Kim I've seen them live, most recently last night at an NEC faculty recital. Years ago Joe told me about Alhaji Bai Konte - Kora Melodies From The Republic Of The Gambia, West Africa , which I only yesterday read that he in return had found out about from percussionist Samm Bennett. This is string music of the highest order, but it is important to understand what Joe and Samm took from listening to it, and how it relates for example to the long cycles within cycles you can hear in the music of Evan Parker, among others. Joe uses these concepts in his improvisations, along with others.

People who don't know that Airto plays here and look at this cover...

They will think that Tony has 3 arms.

Yes... That ideia crossed my mind when I first heard him play. :)

Anyway, what's wrong with those guys for not crediting Airto????

The duo with Jon Faddis was the pleasant surprise back when it was released. He was new on the scene then.

Been listening to some great music today.

First, at midnight, was this beaut: Charles Mingus' The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady on AP 2x45.
Then, this morning I listened to some Louis Armstrong, specifically disc 1 of the Mosaic Complete Decca Sessions.
And now this afternoon I've been enjoying Kamsai Washington's The Epic on 3x33.

I like the mimic of the graphic design of the Atlantic label back covers. It is such a simple and effective layout, that I am surprised many more companies did not use it. Maybe Pacific Jazz....

I know how much you love that album.

You have so much to praise and just talk about it that it would take an entire page of this thread.
So there it is, just a simple photo of your old CD. With a case that shows signs of use. My most loved CDs are also in bad shape.

That's my take on your post. If by any chance I'm not even close to the truth... Don't tell me :p, I'm enjoying this romantic idea on your post.

Thelonious Monk "Live in Rotterdam 1967" Devialet 2 cd set, disc 2

This is that wonderful ensemble that he toured with and Johnny Griffin in particular is excellent on this tour.

That disc doesn't look THAT worn ;) and the CTI Supreme Series is not that old--but I know that disc is loved by its owner. (I have it too . . . can't say I love it.)

Graphic designer MADE BY MOTEL redesigned a bunch of hip hop album covers in the style of Blue Note releases:

I feel blessed, in my upper 30’s, to be discovering and loving the real deal at this point. I appreciate the efforts of those younger than I at paying homage to the greats of music. I run from commercialism but I don’t think the audience of these modern cats have any idea in regards to the referenced covers. Frankly, the fake covers make me simply want to discover more jazz.

Hip-hop has always paid homage to jazz. Be it in the 90s where groups like the Tribe Called Quest created entire albums from jazz samples and even collaborated with legends like Ron Carter, the 2000s where producer Madlib was given access to the Blue Note archives to create an album of remixes titled Shades of Blue or the 2010s where guys like Kendrick Lamar frequently collaborate with jazz cats like Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper and Ambrose Akinmusire.

I think jazz owes a lot to hip-hop for reinvigorating the interest of this generation in the genre and its artists from previous decades. Just like jazz, hip-hop is a distinctly American art form with a lot of creativity and talent and deserves to be recognised as such instead of being dismissed simply based on the poor quality of music from certain mainstream artists in the genre.

You have good thoughts, and I hope I didn’t offend. I know how comments in this realm seem so flippant all too often. I appreciate where you’re coming from, and I truly love older rap ( say pre-00’s) and even older jazz.
