Theatre of Blood is his Sgt. Pepper's. Just brilliant.

I grew up watching him host Mystery on PBS.

He was in at least one episode of the Carol Burnett show that I vividly remember, and was funny as heck. I also liked his performance in Laura (1944).........

Vincent Price plays a vain, comfort-loving bishop opposite Gregory Peck in John Stahl’s “The Keys of the Kingdom.” He backstabs Peck’s missionary priest, and insults Peck’s friends while eating their food, drinking their liquor, and having them carry him around town. It’s a really subtle and daring performance by Price, who manages somehow to be unlikable and pitiable at the same time.

Love him. His last role in Edward Scissorhands was really perfect for him. He also had a great, non-typical role for him in The Song of Bernadette.

And as already mentioned, he is great on Welcome to my Nightmare.

And even though this is completely silly and not a great impression, I love seeing this tribute to him every year:

I was never a fan of horror movies but I remember him as Egghead on Batman. Good actor in any case.

One of the longest tussles between stars on Hollywood Squares was between Price and Paul Lynde.

The question was to Paul Lynde but it was about an upcoming Vincent Price movie: what was notable about it?

Lynde: I know he made a couple of movies just last week ...

Price: That's more than you made all last year.

Lynde: Some of us are choosy!

Price: Some of us are unemployed

Lynde: ... he's made some really good ones ... and a lot of BAD ones!

As I recall the answer was that it was a milestone, something like Price's 100th movie.

  14. So many great performances it’s tough to pick my favorite. But at the moment I’ll go with his role as Morgan in The Last Man On Earth (a film in desperate need of a good restoration and Blu-ray release).

What was the film where he busted a cop being a murderer only to have the tables turn and find himself killed.
It was refreshing for me to (in my inexperience of the time) discover he was not a typecast actor and he could excel in other roles.

  19. No love for his work as host on the early '70s Canuck kids' horror-comedy series The Hilarious House of Frightenstein? This is where a lot of us were first introduced to him. Apparently he shot all his segments in about four days for a flat fee of around $15k.

I wathed House of Wax for the first time earlier in the week. Love him.
I remember him from Edward Scissorhands. Use to watch that wacky movie as a kid.

  21. Dragonwyck may be his best movie. Dark, murderous but also somehow sympathetic in the role of a land baron during a post-revolution political shift.

Back when the Tonight Show had guest hosts Orson Welles (!) sometimes hosted. Vincent Price was on talking about his stage role as Oscar Wilde and Welles asked him, "Have you read the book by his manager about his American tour?". Can you imagine that literary exchange taking place on late night TV nowadays?

I first became a fan of his when I saw him on the sitcom THE GOOD GUYS, playing a finicky health inspector, before I even knew he made horror movies.
