I turned 11 in 1980 so the mid 80s were my teen years so I have fond memories of the music from then.

1981 (My favourite year for music)
1982 (Almost the equal of 1981; I think 81 wins on singles and 82 on albums)
1980 (Almost a complete blank to me at the time, but in retrospect some amazing stuff)
1983 (Last of great years for analogue electronic pop)

    Then quite a big gap...

    1984
    1986
    1989
    1988
    1987
    1985

1984 is the year I always remember. It's also the first year of music I really have a good memory of being aware of music. I was 8-9 years old at the time.

It's special for me because Born in the USA made me a lifelong Springsteen fan. I knew a couple of songs, but I will never forget my dad saying Bruce had a new album coming out.

My favourite years for music, rather interestingly, just happened to occur when I was in Sixth Form studying my A - levels. Almost to the month, the charts got better when I started and worse when I finished. The period mid-1986 to mid-1988 is my personal halcyon period.
