I use my amazon app on my iPhone XR and it’s definitely not viewable or its incredibly well hidden.

as I said I’m not pissed or anything since amazon does good by their customers, I was just curious as to why they go this route. And if I saved anyone the trouble, I’m good with that too.

I have found it helps to check the "item description" where they usually list the name of the label the disc is from. If the field is blank or if a name appears that I am unfamiliar with, then I either pass on the offer or research further by doing a Google search for the label. This has saved me from falling victim to the CD-R sale on several occasions. You can also contact Amazon and their customer service should tell you if it is a MOD disc, which may also mean it is an Mp3 disc as they will burn it from whatever file is available.

It's a public forum where newcomers should be made to feel welcome. Fresh perspectives are a good thing.

Is there an option to order the actual CD? A separate listing? Or CDR only?

I guess you could import the UK release.

    Yeah, that's pretty ordinary!
    False advertising actually.
edit: I most certainly would be jumping up and down and causing a riot!

I’m looking at that link on my phone, ie. the Amazon mobile site, and I can’t see anywhere that it states it’s a CD-R. Likewise for the Liam Gallagher disc. Can you please state exactly where you see it? It seems to me that it may well not be shown for all visitors.

It should be clear as day, the customer is getting a CD-R, NOT a CD.

Thank you - I can confirm I see the message when I switch to the full site, but it’s not displayed for the mobile site. I wouldn’t necessarily presume this omission is nefarious, more likely it’s an oversight in the design of the mobile site (other useful features are also omitted in the mobile site, such as the listing of alternate formats which you only see on the full site).

Having said that, it’s a serious problem for Amazon to make this mistake, and the one time I bought a CD-R from them, I was very unhappy with it and immediately sent it back. Why are the labels authorizing this at all? The music industry really are their own worst enemy and downright stupid on top of it. Or maybe this not only makes a a few more cents for them and Amazon but also usefully alienates anyone who is holding out for physical media against streaming.

Why don't they just sell the lossless download?

Glad we got some clarification on the problem, different devices, different information displayed.
That's a pretty big mistake just the same, it can't be viewed on an app.

Yes, the app is just a thin wrapper around the mobile site, so that makes sense you won’t see it there either.

Probably due to major US manufacturing plants being shut is my guess. Cheaper of course than importing from Europe if an actual manufacture is even done.

Surely there would still be plenty of plants around though? No?
I know I've read on this board about the demise of the CD, but is it really in that bad of shape?
Considering we are talking about big name artists too.

Small independent plants. Metropolis Records uses one in Wisconsin (2019 being the latest) Looks like the majors are outsourcing to Mexico and Optimal Germany for the most part.

The least they could do is offer the disclaimer, "Of course, in another 10 years or so, the disc could end up unreadable, you'll have no recourse and we'll be your only option anyway...and that's why we'll gladly refund your money now, to keep you quiet and let us get away with it."

Yeah...that seems all legal and stuff...
