I've loved Ivan Moravec since his old Connoisseur Society recordings of the 1960's. Being on Nonesuch, this should be a superb listen.
I took delivery this week of a still sealed LP box set issued by Le Chant du Monde( Melodiya)of Rimsky Korsakov’s opera The Tsar’s Bride featuring Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra conducted by Fouat Mansourov. Singers include Vishnevskaya, Arkhipova, Nesterenko and Atlantov.
This morning: Mozart, Symphonies 39,40,41. Karl Bohm conducting Berliner Philharmoniker. 1962 recordings. This CD is part of DG 120 box.
I have been listening to this marvelous disc for many months and it is now picked as the Disc of the Year by Gramophone. Very fine interpretations. Bertrand Chamayou, piano Orchestre National de France Emmanuel Krivine
This is one of my all-time favorite lute pieces. Duet played by James Tyler and Nigel North. Composer: Josquin Desprez. It's a solemn, thoughtful piece with a melancholy beauty to it. By the way, I once saw Tyler play the lute live, and he just tore into it like a banjo player doing bluegrass on speed. He was a former banjo player who switched to lute.
Now enjoying on headphones: Borrowed from the uni library. As it's pre-emphasized, I used it to toy around a bit with proper ripping (works great now). And the music is fantastic. Listened to it after dinner already, especially the J.M. Haydn pieces are beautiful. Music to close your eyes and drift off to other places and times...
A used copy of this came from Amazon today. I probably should've asked about this particular recording here before I bought it but oh well.
I have owned this excellent set for a while. Arthur Grumiaux, the violin master that made his violin sing!
Well, I haven't listened to it yet but my point was I imagine someone would've steered me to a different recording.
IMO this is a pretty good performance. The recording also sounds great in my system. Ilya Kaler might not be as well known as some other violists but he gets a lot of respect among violin aficionados. He is, after all, the only violists who has won first place in Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Paganini International competitions.
Hello. I would like to buy this CD (Marston CD Marcel Ciampi lagniappe) but but I couldn't find a site that sold it. Does anyone know where to buy it?
Sorry, it can't be bought. It is a token of appreciation only given to piano recording subscribers at Marston Records.
Now enjoying the cello sonata recordings from the above box. The live performances are expressive and are recorded quite well.
That is my understanding. More info here: Marston Records | Preferred Customers I suggest that you send them an email and ask: [email protected]
Is it the same as this one from Eurodisc...recorded and/or released in 1978? (That's the cover Qobuz offers.)
There's too "conversing" in the other group, so I'll stay here a while. I'm listening to Sonata No.29 from this excellent set.
