1st record you remember hearing

Just curious what is the earliest record that you remember hearing? Mine was a song called “Son Don’t Go Near the Indians” I believe by Johnny Horton. First record I remember buying was Eight Days a Week/I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party.

These were singles I'd play over and over on our tiny record player. Though my family claims I sang
'She Loves You' all the time when I was around 4. I have no memory of that!

Not sure, but there's a good chance it was by John Denver or Neil Diamond.

 

The year was about 1959 or 1960......I was about two or three and there was a 78 RPM in the house by Rocco Granada (I may have misspelled the last name)called, "Marina". I recall watching it it spin on our RCA Hi Fi record player over and over and being mesmerized by both the song, the sound of it and the spinning record itself. This is the very first record/song that comes to mind in my 62 years of being "here".

 

My earliest specific musical memory is New Year's Eve 1967, listening to a radio countdown of the year's top songs. I recall "Light My Fire" and "I'm a Believer".

On further reflection I recall seeing The Association do "Windy" on the Smothers Brothers show. I don't know when it aired.

I have a very, very vague memory of seeing Roy Clark on a country music show.

And even further back... My sister took me to a Sam the Sham show, despite my young age. I recall a band (I think the Gants) saying they were about to play a song called "Don't blow smoke rings through the window" or something like that. The Yardbirds may have been on this bill as well, but I've never been able to confirm that.

I am told I had earlier enjoyed hearing "Hang on Sloopy", but I have no memory of that.

Probably Hank Williams or Little Jimmy Dickens. Those were from the mid 50s.

First record I ever owned, other than 10" kiddie records, was The Chipmunks, Dec 1958.

First 45 was Sherry. Oct 62

First real album, Meet The Beatles. Jan 64

 

Oh, I remember this as clear as day: Album: The Byrd's Greatest Hits, song, "Turn, Turn, Turn." Hit me like a ton of bricks; that Rickenbacker sounds absolutely blew my mind. Guess I was about 4? Still a huge fan.

 

The Beatles "Hey Jude" album, my older brother owned it.
Elvis' Golden Records, my older sister babysat for a couple on our street, and I would go with her sometimes. They had the LP. Fell in love with "Jailhouse Rock"

Before that it was foggy memories of my mother's Glen Campbell albums

It was in such poor condition I recently bought a replacement on Discogs just to go back every now and again to listen. My original was played on every piece of junk tt and worn out stylus I ever owned.

I was 3 at the time it was given to me, I believe

 

As for the first songs I heard on the radio, the first just happened to be Do-Re-Me, but Personality was played over and over. Yep, I inherited my first radio in the summer of 59.

There were other albums like Pete Seeger and Burl Ives but I don't remember the titles.

 

It was either American Pie or I Wanna Hold Your Hand. We had the 45s in the house.

 

I must have been quite young and it would have bee pre- Beatles ( it' s hard to imagine that now ) but I had a Peter Pan album of some kind.
I can' t recall a thing about the record itself but the album cover was a very colourful drawing of Peter Pan flying with Captain Hook looking menacing in the background.
At least that' s how I remember it.
If anyone could post a picture of this album I would very much appreciate it.
