I knew it, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci are Vampires! Probably Scorsese too, as the Head Vampire/Director, as he is already working on another Movie with DiCaprio that linked in a Prior Post in this Thread.

If I was betting, I would take Pesci for Supporting Actor and Phoenix for Actor, but that being said, I have not seen several other Movies, where Nominees for those 2 Categories will come from, and looks like Bale & Damon do not need to take a back seat(no pun intended being in a Racing Movie) to DiCaprio & Pitt.

Also, wonder if 'US' will get nominated(unless being released so early in 2019 will hurt the chances), as seem to recall Good Reviews, and just bought the BluRay at Best Buy during their BF Sale for $7.99 on Friday, and looking forward to watching it(not to confuse with 'IT-Chapter 2' that I saw in the Theater that was weaker than Chapter 1-IMO). I do not but a lot of BluRay Movies, unless I think I would watch those Movies every 3-5 Years, or have paid only $5 a few years after release, as that is not much to just check out a Movie that interest me, but never got around to seeing a few of them.

Wouldn't you think they could do with the cars as they have done with the actors ( only the other way round ) and make them look more used/age related/beat up to fit the picture ?
I find it very annoying when details like this are overlooked ( it's not as though there aren't car enthusiasts they could ask who would know these things ) spoils the picture a little for me , although in this case it appears very well done - just the abnormally good shape of every car in it !!

I'm often astounded and perplexed by directors who don't care about something like this, but they will care about (say) a tiny red dot way, way, way in the background that nobody can see. But they ignore the fact that they shot 15 cars that looked like they came out of the car wash 10 minutes ago.

Yep, I'd say at least an hour too long. I told a friend earlier today, "the good news is that The Irishman has a brilliant 2-hour movie inside it. The problem is that there's also another 90 minutes of flab to get through in order to see that 2-hour movie."

Sorry, typing fast: mid-to-late 70s. If I had the ability to edit a conversation this old, I would. As I often say, "when I write for free online, all you get is a 1st draft with no copy-editing and no proofreading. If you want more than that, you have to pay me."

Why is does the film opening credits say “I Heard You Paint Houses “ shouldn’t it be The Irishman?

The movie is based on the book, 'I Heard You Paint Houses'. I do not recall the Opening Credits though and if 'The Irishman' was not shown at all.

Watched most of this yesterday, and will probably be continuing sometime later on this week.

Excellent film. All three acting jobs were great. I feel the sum was even greater than the parts, and the direction was great as well.

I feel Deniro and Pacino both have good shots at getting an Oscar here, as well as Pesci. Maybe all three get nominations. Interesting how Pesci won for his portrayal of the most unhinged wild and crazy character in Goodfellas and here he plays the most calm, reserved, level-headed one of the bunch in Irishman. I think Marty has a good chance to get his second win here.

There are 17 listed producers on The Irishman so personally I really don’t want to see it win best picture. It’s an excellent film but I don’t think so epic that we need to see 17+ people up on the stage s-ing each other’s own d!@&s about it.

I loved OUATIH but feel the ending will probably prevent it from winning Picture or Director. Probably a good shot at actor &/or supporting.

I haven’t seen much of the rest of the likely competition. Hopefully catch a few over the holidays and in Jan.

The problem there is, you need a character that the audience can understand and empathize with, even if they don't necessarily like him. Sheeran is still a cypher at the end of the movie, and we know very little about him or his rationale for killing so many people. And he ends up penniless and in an old folk's home, so he's clearly not in the lap of luxury.

Many, many of Scorsese's films have been about extremely flawed people who make bad decisions, leading to terrible things happening in their lives. This is an issue he's had for a long time, and while it sometimes works and can make classic films, I'm not convinced Irishman is one of them.

I didn't have a problem with the music at all, though the stereo version of "Sleep Walk" was a weird one. A re-record?[/QUOTE]
It's a good question regarding Sheeran's motivations for killing so ruthlessly. Are there any clues in the movie itself about this?

'I Heard You Paint Houses' comes on-screen by itself right that the beginning of the film. In the closing credits, it's repeated, followed by 'The Irishman.'

His experience in World War 2 seems to be a clue.

I loved it, although I don't think it eclipses Once Upon a Time or The King as my favourite films of the year. I love mob films and The Irishman has the feel, pacing and look of a great '70s film. Excellent performances throughout, especially by Pesci and Pacino, who should get Oscar nominations.

Well, he did it there too, but there doesn't seem to be a reason why. What is Scorsese trying to say? That Frank was a mindless sheep without a backbone who simply followed orders?

He killed people he didn't know for reasons he wasn't personally aware of or particularly care about under orders from those in charge that he was loyal to. And was apparently rewarded for doing so.

Just finished watching it. ABYSMAL movie, artists well past their prime (no surprise), unconvincing characterizations. Sems like the setting, pace, style is all designed to fit the very limited capabilities of the cast.

And don’t forget the 77-year-old director.

As several critics have pointed out, it’s an old man’s movie.

The worst cars I’ve seen recently were in Once upon a time in Hollywood - that “new” red mustang Margot Robie walked past looked like a bad restoration!

What was up with Joe in that panel video? He seemed so alive in the film. Does he hate those kinds of conversations, or maybe, as it seemed, he was having trouble hearing?? Anyway, I thought he was great in this movie.

I enjoyed it, but the kid’s right, too.

With all this de-aging magic, the best transformation for Pacino was a bad haircut?

I don't buy that "using voiceover is lazy" or whatever the film school critique is, but in this case it evokes "Goodfellas" and "Casino" so immediately that it would have been interesting to see something different this time. Plus, why show DeNiro telling his story to someone in the nursing home, when the narrative goes to lengths to show us that he never admitted his role to anyone?

All I had to do was take a look at a photo of the real Sheeran and you can see he’s just a big, mean, brainless bruiser. If he hadn’t become a thug, he would have become a cop. End of story. So yeah, maybe hard getting a character you have empathy for when he’s a brainless bully killer. So I think Deniro and Scorsese even had to up the empathy a few notches.

So you’re saying they should have cast Channing Tatum instead of De Niro? ;)
