Do you count non physical product that are in your streaming library as part of "your collection"?

Never used Spotify/streaming in my life - cant think of anything on there I can’t get off YouTube or other sites I use.

But definitely include downloads on my hardrive as part of my collection.

 

I don't view anything streamed as part of any collection as its not downloaded or stored to any devices. I also view anything downloaded as very separate from my physical collection.

As others have said, collections are made up of tangible things. I only include physical product (CDs & Vinyl) in my "collection". All of the albums/tracks I've added to my "Library" in Tidal or Apple Music are not counted.

Streaming, no. Downloads, yes. I buy a lot of digital music from Bandcamp and occasionally other sources like Qobuz. These are absolutely part of my collection.

 

I think this misunderstands the nature of a "collection".

 

What were you hoping the answer would be?

 

Enjoy your rented collection that really isn't yours and could disappear at any moment.

 

I only consider physical ‘product’ as part of my collection. Otherwise, I could be like a ‘Soccer Daddy’ and claim that I have 50 million songs in my collection!

I used to get iTunes gift cards at work gift exchanges and I'd buy stuff of the store to put on my ipod, but I never considered it as music I "had."

Spotify is, for me, an easily accessible library of music, but I consider my collection to be actual physical product. That said, about 75% of the music I have on Spotify is stuff I already own.

Yeah I consider the songs I rent from a streaming platform as part of my collection. I have 50 millions songs in my collection! It's my collection! You can't tell me otherwise! In fact I believe I own everything I rent! I rented a hotel room a few weeks ago and I believe I own that too! But when I went back to that hotel room that I own, I couldn't get in and someone else was living there! I rented a car a few weeks ago too, but I believe I own that too! The nice policeman wouldn't listen to me when he showed up at my door with the manager of the rental car company, and I told him I own that car!

 

Well, I do not stream anything myself, but I do consider all of my purchased digital music as part of my music library.

I own them and I can burn them to disk whenever I want or need.

No. In fact, I use the library section of my streaming platforms to flag albums I haven't heard that I want to get around to listening to. I don't keep favorites in my streaming library, I just use the search functionality and type in a title when there's something I was to listen to.
