True, but you would always think the official release should be better and it is not always the case. Who knows if someone will compress it or in the Doors case overdub motorcycle sounds or instruments?

Not having heard it yet, I'm not sure how much better it will sound, but I wouldn't expect it to be any worse. There was a bit of tweaking that I didn't care for on the boot; we'll see what tweaking was done for the official release.

Yup, +1 mate! And the Cream BBC set is no-noised to death, plus only a fraction of all the band's BBC sessions - contrary to what's "out there". Ugh!

Someone mentioned the mastering engineer for this project some pages back and it wasn’t flattering. You’d think that on a serious effort to reach a dedicated fan base that mastering of the existing tape sources would’ve been handed to someone known for meeting those fan expectations. If not, then you have to wonder.

Well, I don't have any Cream live recordings (apart of the short reunion thing in 2005). So I definitely will buy this.

IIRC, USA retailers are at a disadvantage due to a higher royalty rate paid to artists. That's why we often see lower prices on these vault releases out of the UK.

Congratulations, I feed on your beautiful books on Eric Clapton, even though I am interested mostly in the period 65-69. Well about the last concerts at RAH on "Day By Day" and specifically on the first show you write "Setlist is said to be similar to the late show, but not as long due to late running". Since I'm curious, in fact I started a specific thread on this, do you have any news on the exact setlist of the first show?

Sometimes other non U. S. sites are higher sometimes lower. Not sure if royalty payouts is reason. Are there royalties on 51 old recordings?

Sadly not. A Kinescope copy of the entire late show exists which has the benefit of no edits or cuts. I am sure there is, or was, one for the entire early show, but I have not been able to locate it. It makes sense that there was one. No audience recordings have surfaced either so an exact setlist and the running order for the early set is just speculation for now. That said, it makes sense that it would be similar to the late show in my opinion.

Is the guitar lower in the mix though in the 1997 TWTD box set?

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

It was mainly Ginger's drums that sounded better. It actually sounded more like the official Live Cream 2 released Oakland tracks were the rough mixes in comparison. Same with the LA Forum stuff.

I can't compare at the moment, but my recollection is the Live Cream 2 mixes have a much more "live" sound, possibly with more of the audience mics. The Halverson rough mixes are more dry and upfront.

Exactly my thoughts from page 1, what set from RAH Are we getting or is it a combination of the two?
