Good on Wolfgang. It's an opportunity to learn for all involved.

    Opportunity, not obligation.

Oh, of course he does! He wouldn't have commented if he hadn't!

For the other way around, i'll bet a lot of people on this forum will take pride in not knowing who Billie Ellish is. Well, I do, and her music is quite interesting. It's not for everyone.

First, it was Wolfgang who commented. Second, it was a joke, not an attack on Billie Ellish.

I know very little to nothing about the up and coming young artists these days. Unless I hear something in the news or some other media attention, I'm mostly in the dark as to who these people are. It doesn't really matter. And I'm sure they don't really care either. They already have their fans. I think too much detail to into ones attention or awareness of what is going on and the people you should know about is ridiculous and has gone way overboard these days. Life still goes on regardless.

How dare she! Considering everything that Van Halen has accomplished since 2001, the year she was born!!

    Oh, wait.....

I disagree. It is one thing not to have ever listened to Van Halen, it is another thing not to even know of the band. That generation is very detached from historical popular culture and music, and that isn’t a good thing.

Nonsense. And it can only be good for her music if she doesn't know of them. She likes some older music just not VH.

He didn't comment and I'll bet anything he has no idea. And that is not a comment on her worthiness, it's just that EVH famously doesn't keep up on music at all.

Anyway, I know who she is and I think she's cool. I also don't think there's any reason why someone her age should know VH (who are, btw, my favorite band of all time)

But it kind of seems like you posted this to start a fight or something and that's weird.

Neither Edward nor Billie know who I am, and I think that's a disgrace.

I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
    Like clockwork.

Here's the routine, for the 100000th time:

    1) Boomers, who were not blessed to recognize irony, can't believe that w/ Google available Eilish could still be unaware of the rock majesty that is Van Halen.
    2) Same Boomers, (see above re: irony) have bypassed Google (unironically) to ask 'Who's Billie Eilish'.

You have to remember how long ago VH were popular. I mean, Jump was a bit hit in 1984...that's like two of her lifetimes ago! Why should she know about it?

  21. Eh, no reason a girl born in 2001 making conventional pop music should know about the mighty VH. Who cares, etc.

Appropriately enough, as I was checking out this thread the below tune came up on my iPod:

I don't know who Billie Ellish was until she didn't know who Van Halen was made big news. It's not a surprise she doesn't know who Van Halen is. They have hardly done anything this century. I hardly know who or what Van Halen is anymore.....hahahahah I mean whatever. Hard to say why this is even news. When I was her age I never heard of Miles Davis.

I know. How are we expected to remember music and artists that long ago? I can’t remember anybody like Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, or Johann Sebastian Bach. That was also like a lot of lifetimes ago for me.

Great music transcends time and generations.

Also, I pity the fool who doesn’t know who Mr. T (or Van Halen) is.
