Why? I've curated dozens of Playlists of my favorite old and new tracks on Apple Music. They are as 'real' as are your CD's or your downloads. Just binary code, just some 1's and 0's run through a processor in a particular sequence. There is no difference.

CD's are light, small, and thin, they are easily lost. Streaming is everywhere, I could be in a hotel without running water in the inner bowels of China and listen to millions of songs.

  7. If I bought it and downloaded it, yes.

Are Wilco's Roadcase downloads, as an example, not legitimate?

In streaming's defense the charts now count it equal to previous downloads and physical purchases.

You missed my point. I'm not against streaming, but those millions of songs ate not part of my collection.

    CD's can:

    Scratch
    Skip
    Chirp
    Warp
    Erode
    Malfunction
    Get Misplaced

So they can be taken away from you.

Once you hit the "Like" button or add it to a Playlist, that song is part of your collection.

A song is an experience, it's not a physical good. What you think you 'own' is just a plastic container to store it on until such time you retrieve it again. Well, streaming is the same thing, those same 1's and 0's, just stored slightly differently.

I have a collection of over 20,000+ albums collected over 50 years. I stream very often now. I do not care at all if I ever add another album to my collection or not. I just want to hear new music and music new to me. Whether the new music is added to my physical collection or not is meaningless to me.

Nope. Don’t even count cdr copies or comps I’ve made as part of my ‘collection’, so definitely not downloads. I count them all as nothing more than convenient.

Is it possible to have a collection of air? After all, if you stream music, you are renting air, so if you consider it a collection, I guess that means you have a collection of air.

I'm using Qobuz more as an inspiration than as a streaming service. If I like the music, I'm buying it. Not necessarily as a download, mostly also the (best sounding / mastered) CD.

As the OP I'll finally give my view.
I don't count added albums on streaming services that I don't own in either hard copy or download, as part of my personal collection but I do count them as part of my stream collection. However, I understand in today's digital world how some count all added stream content as part of their collection.
Digital downloads do count for me the same as physical product for me because I possess it regardless of the streaming service and can burn them to cd or play off my iPod or computer at anytime.

    So they can be[/QUOTE]
It's basically the digtal download and streaming era that has now prevented people from wanting to take your cds away. They used to be stolen from houses and cars but now there's no value in stealing them. So prior to streaming your cds and albums could be taken away.
