I personally have never heard it, despite being a huge Stones fan, but Keith's Talk Is Cheap is highly regarded.

Not sure if the album is great, but "Life's Been Good" is a pretty classic track.

My first thought was the opposite of yours. Jon's Olias. Chris's has never connected with me. Goofy as Olias is, it's a masterpiece that transports me back to my younger self looking at a star filled summer sky.

I don't know if this counts, the Velvets were still together but Nico was out of it:

I recall seeing him do a solo song on SNL that was pretty great. I think that was about the last time I heard it though..

I am not sure about that. Some others have been picked a few times as well. I guess I can add up the choices at the end to see what the winner is.
I am surprised how diverse the choices are.

Had it been released at the time, I'd be here registering a vote for A Hole in the Sock of Dave Davies!

Still some of his most astounding work.

    I agree.
I was wrong. Ram does not count per my rule.

I love that album and was going to nominate it. There's No Way Out Of Here, while a cover, is a fantastic song.

I'll chip in with Dave Gahan's Hourglass. Miles ahead of his first solo album and really showed some growth as a lyricist.
And also Richard Wright's Broken China. Beautiful album.

I just read the thread title without reading the rule. That's why I said "Paul & Linda...RAM". But that obviously doesn't follow the rule. I take it back.

John Phillips The Wolf King of L.A. is a fantastic album, released before the final Mamas and Papas album People Like Us.

I am surprised that you are the first to list one of his. Unless I missed one.

The OP’s choice of Chris Squire is probably my choice as well.

But just to throw something new in the mix, fighting for that #1 spot for me is Steve Perry’s Street Talk.

    Lou Reed - Transformer
Keith Richards - Talk is Cheap

My choice would be From a Compound Eye. A true solo masterpiece.

My rule was an album while the artist was still in a band. Some of yours don't come under that rule. Sorry.
