What is your favorite "solo" album of all time?

Based on retrospective rankings of "best album ever" lists it would appear that Every Picture Tells a Story would be an/ the obvious choice.

Personally, I prefer Never a Dull Moment.

 

Yes. That's the one. Absolutely classic. Garcia was just made of music.

 

Nearly every C S N & Y solo effort.

Can't choose one over the others.

 

thanks for the nudge! yea i don't know why i avoided it. i think i was almost too much of a Stones fan--i hated the idea of all these great Keith songs that could have been great Stones songs...

 

All Things Must Pass. Monumental at the time, and still the best Beatles solo album (around my house, anyway).

But I certainly play SFB & IICORMN plenty still.

 

This is where jazz definitely has the edge over rock as there are countless examples of artists going off and recording amazing solo albums whilst still being in an established group e.g. Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Tony Williams recorded superb solo albums while still part of the Miles Davis Quintet. Same with John Coltrane's Quartet with the other members.

And don't get me started on how many classic albums the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago have made while still being in the AEoC...

It's actually amazing how few solo albums there are from bands from the golden age of rock and roll. It's pretty slim pickings once you get past Rod Stewart, Pete Townsend and a few others. Very few classic bands had members go off and do a solo thing. i guess it was more of a late 70s-80s type of thing....

 

Although not released at the time, this was recorded while Jack was still in Cream.

 

My favorite Betts solo album. He recorded what was closest to his heart.

Bobby Whitlock was still in Derek and the Dominos when he recorded his first solo album.

 

Not an album, but I think the Chris Cornell solo tracks on the Singles sdtk are pretty fantastic.

 

Where does Eric Clapton s/t fit in his band timeline?

After D&B but before the Dominos?
