John Lennon & Yoko Ono - ‘Live Peace in Toronto’. Released between The Beatles ‘Abbey Road’ and ‘Let It Be’. (in America the ‘Hey Jude’ compilation album was issued before ‘Let It Be’).

Can it work if it was a collaboration between two artists, under a unique name, done after the dissolution of one of the bands? Probably not. But Isidore, Steve Kilbey and Jeffrey Cain, is beyond brilliant.

It is surprising to me that album has been named a few times. I can't say I would ever think of listing it in my top ten. I like the album and it is wildly original but I really don't listen to it often. I guess I am more a rocker. :D

I can see this going either way. It was recorded after Roxy’s first breakup in 1976, and it was unclear at the time whether or not they would reconvene.

I agree. A case where it was more like a break in the action. I don't think they formally announced a break up at that time. So I think it qualifies.

Yeah that probably is the best description. In 1976, Roxy Music announced in the press, “We have all decided to go our separate ways, for the rest of the year at least, to have a rest from Roxy Music for a while.”

The OP said solo albums issued while the band was still active. I like the Lennon side, Eric Clapton is on it too.

Would have to be one of the Wu solo albums. Take your pick between Liquid Swords, OB4CL and Ironman.

  21. I didn't know that Scott was still in the Walker Brothers when he recorded his magnificent solo debut... Bryan Ferry has already been mentioned, and I'm most partial to his first one, These Foolish Things...

I believe Robert Wyatt was still an active member of Soft Machine when his wonderful solo debut album The End Of An Ear came out in 1970, that's a good one.

My favorite would have to be Sleep England by Michael Cashmore, released while he was still composer and guitarist for Current 93. It's the best instrumental guitar album I have ever heard (he plays bass on it as well, but it's mostly guitar).

Great beginning to the thread. The second post was pretty sweet as well.
