Thanks to the other Clapton thread, I am revisiting Derek & the Dominos Fillmore East performances this week and briefly touched on the Rainbow Concert last night. D&D at Fillmore is my favorite Clapton album and so it’s been fun revisiting it! :)

Back to Cream, I want to finally hear the Detroit Grande Ballroom performance from late 1967. I see it’s highly rated and would be a good appetizer before the Goodbye Live set hits in Feb.

Nice! Love that Fillmore set as well. I should probably revisit that one while I’m waiting for this set.

You should also check out the Whisky a Go Go show from ‘67. It’s an audience tape but it’s super listenable, taped from very close to the stage and you can hear all of them clearly. Just as fiery as the Detroit show IMO

    From "Where's Eric!":

    http://www.whereseric.com/eric-clapton-news/303-creams-goodbye-tour-–-live-1968-available-february-7-2020

It is interesting to compare the timing reported of CD4 with the equivalent of The Last Goodbye (in brackets):

    01. White Room 8.02 - (7:49, including introduction)
    02. Politician 6.37 - (6:29)
    03. I’m So Glad 6.53 - (6:59)
    04. Sitting On Top Of The World 5.06 - (4:56)
    05. Crossroads 5.03 - (4:35)
    06. Toad 11.22 - (11:13)
    07. Spoonful 15.47 - (16:05)
    08. Sunshine Of Your Love 8.37 - (8:04)
    09. Steppin’Out 5.02 - (4:37)

I deduce that "White Room" is from the second show and includes the introduction by John Peel, we can be said with relative certainty that it is the entire second show.

Simple the opinions, when there is some new element. But let's be clear, I don't want to argue with anyone, I'm not that kind of person. :frog:

I haven't heard the entire set, but if Sunshine of Your Love is indicative of the rest of the box, there's absolutely nothing to worry about.

Any tweaking was minimal, at best. We'll see whether or not that was the case for the other shows (Oakland was the best sounding of the bunch to start with).

I'm not arguing, I just have no idea what you're talking about and am trying to figure that out.

Eric tends to not dwell on his past and what he played

Agreed. At least he recognizes part of his fan base likes his work from past eras and that he doesn’t seem to prohibit Universal from issuing archival works.

Yup - contrary to some other artists, unfortunately. You gotta be grateful for that.

Correct, although I think he is starting to embrace his past with some of his former band mates passing on

Source and mastering reservations aside, decided to go ahead and pull the trigger, preordering from Amazon.co.uk at what looks to be a fair price. It’s always possible that Cream fans will get okeydoked by something previously released in similar quality as a booted product, but the packaging looks quite nice and I’m willing to take that risk.

Hopefully the SQ will live up to the promotional effort. My copies will likely arrive stateside a few days later than those ordered locally, but if the performances live up to expectations it’ll be worth the wait. Anyway, by the time of release everyone should have a pretty good idea what to expect from this set.

Much better than the boot. You also get the Buddy Miles intro for the LA show. No cut on White Room and no digital pops on this official set. I cannot believe anyone will be dissapointed with this set. And the price is very good when compared to similar releases.

For some of the material, Marc? As Sunshine of Your Love from Oakland is nearly identical to the boot, as above.

I would say so. I will compare again and let you know tomorrow, but to my ears everything sounds clearer with better separation.

Ginger was there but didn't last long. He told the other drummer on stage to f@@k off, dropped his sticks, and stormed off the stage.
