LOL!! that's what I get for posting before coffee, I must be blind.

  4. I guess I'd agree with the OP top five in terms of influence and impact, but mine would probably be

    Stones
    Beatles
    Who
    Procol Harum
    Pink Floyd

Most of the UK bands I love best didn't really come around till the end of the 60s or early 70s. King Crimson at the end of '69. Jethro Tull and Pentangle around '68. There's Traffic, I guess, Fairport Convention and Incredible String Band.

and The Bee Gees- wasn't sure as some would say they are Australian, but they were born in England and made their best 60s albums in England.

    The Rolling Stones
    The Who

    Those are the triumvirate.
    Following would be:
Pink Floyd and The Kinks [although both more for their 70s work]
The Move were good, but limited
    Cream, good but brief
Yardbirds, unfortunately never listened to all that much, not to say they're not good, but we heard more of the originals in my house...
Hendrix, of course, if he were not American...

Mr. Hoffman, please, edit your post. Them are from Northern Ireland so they are British.
Also, going on some posts here, maybe put Sixties and British in CAPS.

    In that order, too.

I didn't consider bands that started in the 60s but whose best or most popular work is predominantly 70's (Floyd, Zep).

Pink Floyd if you don't like JHE as a British group. I believe I read somewhere that Jimi saw themselves as a British group.

Some of you might not see JHE as being a British band. If you do a little homework, then you'd see why I've added them to my list. 2/3 of them were British, and they got their start on that side of the pond. There's more, but that should be enough

    1) Beatles
    2) Rolling Stones
    3) Pink Floyd
    4) Led Zeppelin (I know they only did two albums in the 60's, but those first two are my favorites)
    5) Cream

In the order of preference / love:

    #1 -- Beatles

    #2 -- The 'Oo

    #3 -- Kinks

    #4 -- Cream

    #5 -- Yardbirds

If Jethro Tull and Led Zep qualified (as Steve mentioned, they were really sort of 1970s bands, with their first release or two being in '68 and '69) I'd have Tull at #3 and Zep at #5.

I would have put Sabbath in there, but the first album wasn't out until early 1970 (I think)?
