Neil Young gave me pause, but his time w/CSN seemed more like a hobby than a band commitment.

I like both bands but I probably listen to Lunatic Soul more.

They just hit the spot, somehow.

That was recorded in October 1975 but only released in August 1976.

It's not clear when Pastorius approached Zawinul after a WR gig with his "I'm the greatest bass player in the world" but the biog of Wayne Shorter makes it clear that the tracks he recorded for Black Market in Dec 75/Jan 76 acted as an audition and he only made his stage debut with WR on April 1st 1976.

So, I think this goes down as a "recorded before being a member."

    Agreed.

They were more like "artists" who performed together rather than a "band".

Hackett's venture on Classical gave me 2 Top Favourite albums: Metamorpheus and A Midsummer Night's Dream, but I can figure why I'm always in the minority on the love of these two gems. Anyway, I'm afraid very few (if none) of the rock musicians managed to compose orchestral scores in the true Classical Music form with such a brilliance!
