Extensive reshoots apparently and a focus change (more horror). See post-production section.

“Most anticipated movies” lists like this are heavy on sequels and reboots because people are familiar with these properties, so there’s talk about them about well in advance. They’re not writing about next year’s Moonlight or Green Book or Roma because nobody knows these movies exist yet.

Not unless they dig up T.S. Eliot.

They keep making more Sherlock Holmes and Tarzan films, and those authors have been dead for more than 70 years.

  8. I'm predicting that West Side Story, Tom & Jerry, Jungle Cruise and Doolittle will stiff. Dune may do well depending on how the complex story is broken down for audiences. Birds of Prey looks fun. Are you sure "The Last Duel" is a SF film? According to what I've heard it's a period piece based on Eric Jager's book of the same name.

I think all of them are tough sells. I'll go see West Side Story because I'm a Spielberg loyalist, but I ain't expecting much.

Could be! Online data is scattered.

Jesus, this thing was shot back in Fall 2017!

    Contrarian take.

Much as it pains me to say it, I can see Doolittle being a big hit.

PG rated kids film. Funny celebrity animal voices. Great CGI. Traumatized MCU fans still grieving Tony Stark's death.

After Aladdin did over a billion, I would be willing to bet Doolittle could do the same.

Can't miss with Box Office Gross

With the critics , it may miss
but Harley Quinn is way too popular of a character
to open less then $70 mill

    will easily do $250 mil
    and that is being conservative

    if reception is good
this could be "Joker" all over again

    more worried about Bloodshot

if BOP/HQ is too big , people may not be ready for a new comic book universe

and DC and Marvel films never flop , anymore
as far as box office gross

Shazam did not do awesome, but reception was solid , and the sequel
will be a lot bigger (as long as the release date is solid)

the only Marvel film to flop was the last X-Men film (but that was a non-Marvel Marvel film)
(which makes me think New Mutants may not do well)

Eh, I think Justice League and Batman vs. Superman "underperformed." Joker hit $1,050,000,000, which is the kind of numbers they like. WB would kill for the profits that Marvel makes on most of their films.

The first "Captain America" film cost $140M (somebody reported it cost $200+M) and grossed $370M..while not a flop, I don't think it really made a significant profit. Of course it was part of a bigger plan.

Regarding "Dolittle", I'm also in the "will be a hit" camp. We'll see :)

You do have a point. Ian Fleming has not been around for some time either and his franchise has been going strong for over a half century.

I think that T.S. Elliot would turn over in his grave if he saw the Cats, the movie.

I think that he would be very pleased with the Andrew Loyd Webber play.

In retrospect, it is a pity that more authors movies were not made from the already existing authors books, like Dr. Doolittle and Mary Poppins for example.

So Maisie Williams will be the second Game Of Thrones actress to star in a Marvel bomb.

    for those doubting BOP ...

Suicide Squad was a box office success, grossing $325.1 million in the United States and Canada and $421.7 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $746.8 million, against a production budget of $175 million ($325 million including advertising and promotion costs).

Absolutely true -- the film made money. I think you can argue it was a critical failure. From Wikipedia:

Suicide Squad received negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 27% based on 367 reviews, with an average rating of 4.8/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts, but they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing." On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average of 40 out of 100, based on 53 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

I think WB was relieved that Suicide Squad did a lot better than Man of Steel and Justice League.

I also think use the Dark Knight series and the recent Joker as examples of hugely-successful films that points to the direction that WB wants to go in the future. My guess is they're going to pull out all the stops now that Marvel has finished with their current characters for now.

Big market for these type of films with a strong female lead cast so I think BOP will do fine.

Justice League is a big pile of **** and it made all that money so if BOP is decent it could do even better.

Geez, who thought reimagining Fantasy Island as a horror franchise was a good idea. Hard pass.
