I always found Rod Stewart "leaving" the faces while still using them to record his first solo album quite interesting

Jeff Beck guested on four songs on the first Box of Frogs album, a Yardbirds reunion in all but name. Jimmy Page played on one song on their second album.

Beck also reunited with Bogert and Appice on Vanilla Fudge’s Mystery credited as J Toad.

Rufus and Chaka Khan would qualify-- She was featured on their final live album "Stompin' at the Savoy" but was no longer a member of the group. (It also included songs she;'d recorded solo, to tie this in with another thread).

Are we talking strictly about playing contributions, or could we include Vinnie Vincent’s co-songwriting appearances on KISS’s ‘Revenge?’

Speaking of co-songwriting, there is the case of Robb Royer and Bread. Royer left the band after the third album but still co-wrote songs on their three subsequent albums.

Ron Griffiths (The Iveys-bassist) just sang on this track from Mike Gibbins self-released 3rd Solo album[2002]. The last time they both worked together was in late 1969.

Gere Fennelly, who played keyboards for Redd Kross in the early/mid '90s, popped up on at least one track on this year's RK Beyond The Door album.

Bill Berry popped up on some R.E.M. Christmas Fan Club tracks, as well on "#9 Dream" for a Lennon tribute album in the late '00s. But that was probably mentioned already.

I don’t think Green’s guitar parts were used on the album master. The Green/Buckingham version is a bonus on the expanded edition.

Update. While reading Ken Caillat’s new book on Tusk, he revealed that some of Peter’s guitar work can be heard, mixed low, at the tail end of the intro on the master.

Slightly off topic, but Mick Abrahams guested on one of Martin Barre’s recent solo albums.

Evans, Hammond, and Barlow had all played in the proto-Tull band The John Evan Band/The John Evan Smash. Apparently Evans played piano on Tull’s (or rather, “Jethro Toe”’s) first proper single, if I understand correctly. He wasn’t credited though and wasn’t a member at the time.

While Peter Giles, who played bass in the proto-Crimson Giles, Giles, and Fripp played session bass on that album.

That's more like the inverse of what the OP is looking for.
