Heard on a dutch podcast (fabfourcast, great show) that it was believed that sir Martin had a little speaker set up while mixing to check how it would sound on a transistorradio. Because that was what most people listened to.

Do they use the original mixes of Free As A Bird and Real Love or the 2015's

  4. Maybe they'll play better in your CD player, if you don't mind cutting corners.

I listened to the entire set on Friday night and while I wasn't impressed with the sound quality on certain ones, as the set went on it seemed to improve. I will say the cuts from the Mono box sound better than these but it was fun to spin them all and I am glad to have the box. I noticed a bit of a warp on one of them (can't recall which one now) but nothing major.

  7. Seeing as over half of my discs are warped, I think you got a good box.

There’s no image visible here, it’ll probably work if you post a direct link

This is somewhat unrelated to this boxset in particular, but did anyone notice the video that was very briefly uploaded to The Beatles YouTube channel this morning and subsequently deleted?

I think it was only up for a few minutes. It was just about the cringiest “le wrong generation” **** imaginable. Seems that this was the first in a potential series of videos, Apple may be going the route of involving “influencers” to push the sales of calendars/marbles/scarves/other Beatles themed merchandise. I hope it stays deleted.

Thanks for this, I’m not personally a fan of this particular spectrogram tool as I don’t find it provides a very accurate view of what’s actually going on in the audio, so, still hard to say. But either way we still already have confirmation that the Threetles tracks were from 16/44.1, so any audio above that band is not from the source material.

  12. There appear to be vestiges of a line of some sort around 12 kHz. Odd.

Thanks. Still curious where that audio would be from - if not from the source material. Interesting stuff :)
Do we have a confirmation that the Threetles tracks were from 16/44.1? If so, where to find it?

It was shown in the “production” video recently put out for this box set. The tape box notes that it’s 16/44.1.

That's all well and good and I'm glad they are AAA and not digital versions, but I would have preferred best-sound equalization for reproduction on modern audiophile playback equipment.

They could have included a 1960’s record player in the package.

Well, I'm sure these sound good through your Kenner Close 'n' Play.

Not saying it is not true, but i don’t think i’ve ever seen pictures from Abbey Road that bear this out.

I think it’s in his book Making Music. I don’t have the book available to me at the moment but I am sure that he mentions somewhere having a small pair of speakers for this purpose. However I think he is referring to AIR studios rather than Abbey Road.

Awesome interview. Does contain the “fog” comment. And much more:
