    The 3 choices I wish to explore are the following ;

    1. Friday Music, mastered by Kevin Gray. In spite of what the hype sticker and Discogs page say, I vividly remember seeing a blurb a couple of days ago stating it was made from sources derived from the master tape... or some such wording, confirming it was basically cut from digital files.

    Wilson Pickett - The Best Of Wilson Pickett

    2. Speakers Corner, mastered by Kevin Gray. "Pure analog mastering" doesn't explain much. Can anybody clarify?

    Wilson Pickett - The Sound Of Wilson Pickett

    3. Real Gone Music : Wilson Pickett - Land Of 1000 Dances (The Complete Atlantic Singles Vol. 1)

    • All Original Mono Single Mixes Never Before Available on CD, Not Even on Rhino Handmade’s Collection of Pickett’s Complete Atlantic Studio Recordings

    • Sources from Original Tape

    • Remastered by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision
    =========================================

    Thoughts on which one is more likely to yield terrific SQ? Has anybody compared any of these 3?

    I’m CD-only, and I would have bought the Real Gone title if they had produced a second volume. But since they didn’t, I still have my A Man and a Half 2CD set.

    No one bought any of these? Disappointing considering the claimed love for WP and that style of music on this forum.

    Yep, that’s the 2CD set I referenced earlier. Since Real Gone didn’t put out a second volume (as the title implied), I still have the above. Sounds good, too.

    How is this mastering on the Real Gone CD? I ask because I've always found their releases too harsh, loud and compressed for my liking? This Rhino set, on the other hand, is warm, dynamic and a joy to listen to from start to finish.

    This 2CD compilation is the best I've seen an the one I have. I had no complaints with the sound quality, but I tend to play Wilson Pickett on vinyl as I have a few original LPs and haven't played this CD in a while. This does include Engine No.9!
    Wilson Pickett - The Definitive Wilson Pickett

    To be fair, that 1992 Rhino CD mentioned above does look better. It has more tracks and will probably sound better.

  10. Edsels are not common in the US, but not impossible. Your comments on those are welcome though.

    Sorry, I guess I never made that clear—I never bought it. I would have, if they had put out the second CD, because I got the impression it would sound as good as the Rhino set, if not a little better.

    Here’s a thread about it:

    Wilson Pickett - Complete Atlantic Singles Vol. 1 is the new gold standard!

    (If you go to the end of that thread, you’ll see there’s a glimmer of hope for a second volume next year.)

    I also have that and it does sound good but my preference is for the 1992 Rhino. It's actually worth having both because each has songs the other doesn't, including "Engine No.9" as you quite rightly point out.

    One thing I've noticed about the Pickett Rhino releases is that they can be normalized quite a bit and still not be brickwalled.

    I don't care about the price ; just about getting the very best SQ possible. If it isn't the best, I ain't interested. :D

    If it is the best, I'm all ears. :)

    Been listening to this CD set this past week. There is a version of "Don't Fight It", which is listed as the unedited single master.

    Does anyone know how it differs from the regular single version? The unedited master seems to be about 20 or so seconds longer. I was curious as to exactly what part was edited.

    The section from about 1:30 to 1:48 on the unedited master. On the edited single that follows, it goes straight from “Feel it, feel it” to “The way you jerk”:

    I have the triple CD 36 All-Time Favorites on Warner Special Products. All of his big hits and some lesser known gems. I'm not a hard core audiophile, but it sounds great to me.

    The Sound Of, from Speakers Corner is very, very good. I have an original and the SC pressing and both are great listens.
