Huh? You just posted the same EW review where the reviewer Darren acknowledges he didn’t even watch the show yet gave it an F. The other link you posted for Rotten Tomatoes says it’s got a 92% audience rating. This is getting pretty weak lol!
Binged watched all 8 Episodes, My wife and I loved it, and were a little disappointed that we have to wait for more.
Not really. I was reading about why Ruth Wilson quit The Affair - young actresses being forced to do needless naked scenes by some creepy producer/director that serve no plot function. It's kind of sickening really and when I see this sort of thing to me it spoils the show. It's a bit pathetic really. YMMV.
As soon as finish Midsommar I’ll check this out. I’m horribly behind on most stuff. I still haven’t finished On Becoming a God in Central Florida and night not. I’m done with Ray Donovan, too. Awful.
Witcher is directed by a female and the main actress playing Yennefer has said in interviews she refused herself to use a body double for naked and sex scenes. Lots of male nudity with Henry and others during during the orgy scenes.
Yeah I don't mind nudity for good plot reasons but to be honest it is a little gratuitous in Witcher. A lot of it serves little purpose. Back in 1983 it was well appreciated by my 12 year old self to see Helen Mirren or Jenny Agutter flashing it all off. But in this day and age...yawn. As for it being directed and written by women, as in the case of The Affair, it seems women are the ones pushing for it. Odd times we live in. Up to episode 7 and 8 to watch. It has improved but I wouldn't be upset if it got cancelled. I have seen far far better from Netflix get the chop. The show is a bit of a mess for reasons stated already.
Yeah, I laughed when I read that. Now that she's become famous and made a lot of money, she decided to grow a conscience. How convenient...
I know. I was being facetious, which sounds awfully glib after you've correctly put me in my place. To be honest, I never care for shows/films that think by including a bit of nudity they come across as 'mature.' I tend to think it's gratuitous. Hey, look at us, we deal in adult themes. For example, the audience didn't need to see Jimmy Smits' ass every other week to know NYPD was a serious show aimed at adults. Homicide neither needed nor did that at all and was all the better for it. Unfortunately - or fortunately - and YMMV - T & A has always been associated with the sword and sorcery/fantasy genre, for better or worse. But you're right, there is no need for it and certainly no need to subject a young actress to that, which is probably as much a symptom of the pornification of the business as much as it a generic concern. Merry Christmas.
Aggregate reviews this early on for an all-at-once streaming show are completely unreliable. They are often padded by spammers and fanboys.
Got the Witcher 3 - The Wild Hunt game for Nintendo Switch for Xmas and bought the first book in the series The Last Wish on IBooks. I’m a fanboy now.
This thread is so funny. Tried it last night, a very long 30 minutes later I gave up. Completely boring.
Up through episode 6 so far. Never gets above a "6" on my scale. Some gems in there (Queen Calanthe, Jaskier the minstrel/sidekick to name two), but mostly too much of what we've all seen before & not done as well. Usually paced well, but some scenes annoyingly way too long. Costuming quality seems a bit un-even & increasingly 20th-century-ish as the season gets on (perhaps a budget issue?). Overall, is it supposed to be serious or campy? I'm never quite sure. Worst part, imo, is me not really caring a whole lot about these characters. Lastly, why does Caville use his gutteral, psycho-Superman, American voice rather than his natural British accent?
Like others have said, I tried watching the first episode and couldn’t finish it. Too boring, and kind of cliche. I thought it would be right up my alley but no. Maybe I’ll give it another try at a later time.
