Lol true, but they don’t seem to be rushing to beat the bootleggers with massive copyright dumps every year like other acts. I think the “Anniversary edition” angle is just an easy tool to use in marketing

I'll take the Archive approach over the Lennon "three seperate releases to get all content" method any day.

Luckily, I think - I hope! - that won't be repeated for Plastic Ono Band or Double Fantasy.

@Oatsdad While I think the Lennon Estate is just releasing an SDE, I think the McCartney camp is much more interested in re-framing the albums to create a more positive outlook to his releases. I think the printed material is a large companion piece to that end

It is, though I think it matters less than labels and others seem to believe.

I mean, is anyone who'll buy an "ATMP" SDE this year gonna do so because it's the album's 50th?

I guess it helps get more press attention!

Luckily for Lennon there isn’t too much stuff video wise to include (videos, live shows etc) so whatever they leave out can’t be too much.

    Additionally, it showcases Linda's photography.

I like the printed stuff - I just wish they were more generous with bonus tracks!

Some releases have been great in that regard, but others are meh at best.

For instance: "WOA" should've included the full San Fran concert. The inclusion of only a handful of tracks was borderline spiteful!

I don't even really care much about video material. Sure, a full-length 1979 Wings show would be great, but I'm still way more concerned with audio recordings on SDEs...

I agree and the attention is probably exactly why they do it. Call it whatever they want, just do it right and I’ll buy it lol

I could be way off, but wasn’t there quite a bit of discussion a few months back about a McCartney box set of the 70s albums which have already been given the Archive treatment? Could that be the “more discs to hate,” considering most members of this forum already have those releases?

We will find out this year how concerned the Lennon and Harrison estates are.

Ugh. That’s what I get for reading this thread late at night, and not going back in the clear eyes of daytime. Ignore my stupidity.

Assuming the “sandwiched” Let It Be 50 will be coming out in May (aligned to anniversary date like others before it), the first release should be coming out either March or April and so an announcement shouldn’t be too far away!

Will it be something related to the 50th anniversary of McCartney (/start of his solo years) or the next Archive collection or how about both? Now that would be something! :)

Based on a possible clue seen elsewhere on the web, we will be waiting 24/7 for a warm midsummer's treat.

Maybe 24/7=July 24th. It is midsummer and it falls on a Friday.
