It's not if that universe/world has long established lore which specifies the limits. Every fantasy film/book has it's own in terms logic.

    Speaking of "Broom Boy"...

At the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a stable-boy on a casino planet telekinetically picks up a broom, echoing the final scene of The Twilight Zone's "The Prime Mover"!

PS-George Lucas was probably also influenced by this particular episode with regards to "The Force".

Saw the film today....loved every minute of it.
So makes up for the mess that was 'The Last Jedi' for me.

I did'nt find the pace as breakneck speed as other fans had forwarded, but knowing that beforehand may have helped prepare me better.
I made sure to pay attention.

There were two moments in particular however that I felt were far too rushed -
The reveal that Chewbacca was still with us, and Ben Solo's 'ending'.
Far too quick....I felt there should have been a longer period between the transport destruction scene and the 'reveal', and a slight pause / dialog moment before Ben just hits the deck.

Otherwise I had no real complaints....it was dramatic, exciting, emotional at times ( cried five times ...and I am usually a rock! ) and very satisfying.
I thought Williams' score was terrific....his choices for where to fit the themes was a great service to certain moments and sequences, as always.

Will definitely need to experience it again, this time in IMAX if possible.
Might well do that next week.

I saw it tonight and really struggled with it. I found it tedious and convoluted.

People have been saying why did they bother pretending to kill Chewbacca — but the point of the “Chewie is dead” scene was really to show Rey being frightened of her own power. I think they immediately reassured us he was alive so it wasn’t a distraction (i.e. so the audience wasn’t sitting there hating Rey).

I only skimmed through it as I didn't find it particularly hilarious but I do think the lack of Klaud merchandise is an oversight on the part of Lucasfilm.

I kinda felt the same. Wasn’t “thrilling” to me at all, though I did enjoy it. I didn’t care for TLJ or Rogue One but loved them both upon a second viewing at home, so hopefully the same will happen with this. All in all, and as one of the minor group that liked the middle three, I think having all nine on dvd will be quite a nice package of very special films, despite the fact that the last three were far from perfect. I did thoroughly enjoy Force Awakens.

The concept of a one-hour-long review is what's hilarious.

Aside from maybe EMPIRE, none of these movies were ever perfect, and if one really wanted to you could even nitpick Empire to death if one was in the negative frame of mind. The OT films are perennial classics with their own flaws that are tempered by nostalgia. The prequels are a potentially great story and visuals that's marred by poor acting and direction and an over use of CGI. The sequels are a somewhat shaky and inconsistent story that's bouyed by beautiful cinematography and visuals and truly great acting and action.

And of course, across the whole thing there's John Williams fantastic score, which has been the most consistent thing about the series.

You have to view Star Wars as a whole now for better or worse. I greatly enjoy the series warts and all. I can honestly say I've never walked out of a Star Wars film without having had a good time and I never felt I was cheated. Even with The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones which are my least favorite of the series I can honestly say I was never bored. More than I can say about other franchises and movie series who have outlived their welcome.

Nothing will probably best the original trilogy, but honestly, what can?

A good way of looking at it, yes.
I can see how the reveal may have been rushed to make that point.

I suspect it's to get the audience rooting for Rey who is beginning to doubt herself because she thinks she's just killed Chewie when we know she didn't. And because we know Chewie is alive and they don't there is building anxiety about who is going to save him.

Great post...totally agree. You have to put them on and just enjoy for what they are. And for what they are, few films give so much! I never felt cheated either. I think all nine were well made with good intentions, no rush job cash grabs imo. Some can nit pick, but I just want to have fun watching them and with that mentality, they have given me more than my moneys worth.

Plus had they kept Chewie dead,we all know certain very vocal Star Wars fans would spend the next 20 years screaming about how "MaRey Sue murdurred Chewie! Ruined muh childhood!!" These guys already resent Rey from "stealing" Luke's "proper" status as the series main hero. That would have put these guys over the edge. They're already whining like babies over her taking a certain surname at the end of TROS.

Very bad film. Most of it makes no sense. Wooden acting (in most cases), weak character development, horrible dialogue, random storytelling, poor ending etc. Fails completely as a movie in which one actually cares what happens to any of the characters in it. Great effects, an expensive video game.

I guess that's true from a certain point of view.

Make no mistake. They are great movies for sure, and Empire is pretty damn close to near perfect, but no movie is completely perfect, especially within Star Wars.

I saw the movie the other day.
I enjoyed the movie (other than a few nitpicks below).
The conflict between Rey and Kylo Ren was the best part (probably of the entire trilogy).

The main thing that bothered me I knew about going in.
Abrams (maybe it is the screenwriters but he get the credit) keeps retreading villains (and blowing up planets full of people). Apparently being blown up on a space craft (or planet) does not really mean dead. How about some original villains. (I did not even watch that Star Trek movie with the revived Khan because of it).
The fan service was layered on a little heavy. Starting with the title.

Sorry - I have not read back through this thread yet.
Does anyone else think they wimped out by either the redemption of Ren or Chewy not really getting killed?

George Lucas' greatest skill may have been creating villains. For all of the weaknesses of the prequels, the villains were still fantastic.

Rise of Skywalker completely missed with me. I am not even sure I liked it better than Last Jedi. I did enjoy Force Awakens (probably because it is basically Episode IV).

I have come to the conclusion that as a first generation fan these films are not for me. You cannot recapture the magic of your youth. Of course the Original Trilogy is also universally recognized as being a lot better than anything that came after.

I did like the excellent way they put Leia in the film. Seemless. But, I found the plot convoluted. Ben Solo's turn was uneventful and confusing (Leia speaks to him with the Force, and that is all he needed?) and then he did not do much. There was also too much fanboy pandering. And I have a real problem with the Emperor being alive.

I actually like the prequels as a whole better than these films (but like Force Awakens the most of those 6).

I have decided I will show my children only the OT, and then if they want to watch the other films, it will be up to them.
