to me, Cats trailer was literally more disturbing and creepy than most horror films. What were they thinking?

I don't think it will catch Welcome to the Jungle $962.1M but still respectable enough.

And therefore - no offense - meaningless. For example, Bonnie And Clyde came out in 1967 when a stamp was 6 cents, gas was .33 a gallon, the minimum wage was $1.40 and the dollar was pegged to gold at $35 an ounce. Extrapolate B&C's $70 million box office based on today's price for stamps (.55) and gold ($1528) and it comes in at between $641 million and $3 billion.

You're correct that trying to compare the movie industry of today versus 50 years ago is almost impossible due to a variety of factors.

-Variability of ticket prices / available formats
    -Inflation
    -Changes in the marketplace
    -# of theatres
    -expansion of international markets
    -exchange rates
    -incomplete data sets

and probably a few others that I'm missing.

I think for the purposes of measuring the most successful movies of the last 20 years the current list is reasonably accurate.

IMDB has a list (estimate) for All-Time Worldwide adjusted

Highest Grossing Blockbusters of All Time Adjusted for Inflation - IMDb

    1- Gone with the Wind
    2- Titanic
    3- Avatar
    4- Star Wars (1977)
    5- Avengers: Endgame
    6-The Sound of Music
    7- E.T.
    8- The Ten Commandments
    9- Doctor Zhivago
10- Star Wars - The Force Awakens

    and so on....

Don't you americans have a list of how many tickets sold? Box office is totally meaningless if it's not within the same year.

Official number of tickets sold is not released by the studios to the public, dollars only as far as I know.
