How can they be rare if they simply make another copy to replace the sold one?

    :)

Bootlegs. MFSL only did vinyl for The Beatles. So they're needledrops. Who knows, they might even be needledrops of the MFSL vinyl!

There's also The White Album, Abbey Road, Revolver.

Supposed to be needledrops, but who knows.. I have them in FLAC, can't comment on the sound, never heard any other version

I don't know about all of them, but the ones that were available a few years ago from Japan were supposedly very nicely done, and indistinguishable in any way from the product MFSL would have released. Someone offered me the full set for $300 then; apparently it would take twice that to get them now.

I have about six titles of the Japanese pressings. Very well done needle drops from MFSL vinyl and excellent cardboard sleeve replicas, but bootlegs never-the-less. There are also some famous Italian bootlegs that claim to be official MFSL releases (IIRC, these were gold discs). Lately, the Russians have bootlegged a lot of these, as well.

As someone else posted, MFSL never released any Beatles CDs. I would pass on these. Purchase some real vinyl or wait for the real remastered CDs later this year.

The ones from Japan that were shown to me were gold, and came in lift-lock cases. They honestly looked just like Ultradiscs.

I've got the aluminum discs with "Original Master Recording ... Promotional Only Not For Sale" and a serial number (e.g. OMR-003) inscribed on them. They came with a label you could put on the CD with a full tracklist and other information, and a replica cardboard sleeve with the "Original Master Recording" banner on the front and back covers and the MFSL logo on the back. All the packaging was first class, very professionally done and the discs have very good sound. EMI/ Apple should take lessons from whoever produced these.

I once did a lot of research on these discs and those Italian MFSL wannabes, but forget a lot of the details. Some people thought that the ones I have were MFSL sample discs made in anticipation of Beatles MFSL CD releases that were never approved. I think that these are needle-dropped boots.

Are the MFSL Beatles' CDs any good?

Are these regarded as the best version of Beatles' albums on CD or are there better ones that aren't super rare?

They get paid, so they probably don't police it too strictly.

  22. 5 or 6 years ago Ebay was a major source of bootlegs, cd-rs, and other various illegal music. But they crack down on it now much harder than they used to. They've weeded out a lot of items that before would've stayed up for auction. People have moved to resources like Craig's List for that type of stuff because there is no enforcement on sites like that.
